The Jesuit Golf team has come out of the gate swinging, maintaining strong showings in the Bart Granger Memorial, one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the state, and the Wolverine Fall Classic, a great showcase of the program’s promising Junior Varsity squad. Both groups delivered strong showings to start out a future of great success during the season for the Rangers.
Varsity – Bart Granger Memorial Invite
First, for some background on this prestigious tournament, the Bart Granger Memorial has 52 of the best teams from all over the state of Texas, along with a couple teams from Arizona. The tournament is played at Pecan Valley GC on both courses. The Friday round is 36 holes and the Saturday round is 18. Teams play either the Hills or the River course in the first round, then switch to the other course for the second round. The teams will stop for about 30 minutes for lunch before the second round. The groups are fivesomes, so each round takes close to six hours. So, the first day is a golf marathon, teeing off just after it gets light at 7:30 a.m. and finishing when it is starting to get dark, a true physical and mental test for all competitors.
The Jesuit Golf team has had a strong track record at this tournament in the past. In 2022, the team won the tournament by a dominant nine shots, leading after every round. In 2023, the team boasted a huge victory, shooting 18-under par en route to capturing their second Bart Granger victory in a row. Last year, the team finished in a strong third place and they hoped to continue their domination in this tournament to start out the 2025-26 golf season.
The Rangers showed up to the tournament with a strong lineup consisting of Jackson Straley ’28, Jonah Fahrenbruch ’27, Spencer Carter ’26, Jack Clancy ’26, and Alex Murray ’26.

Throughout this tournament, Senior Jack Clancy proved to be one of team’s most dependable performers, posting rounds of 71-73-73, steady rounds that kept Jesuit competitive throughout the tournament.
Meanwhile, Senior Alex Murray, turned in the lowest round that the Rangers posted with a low final round of 68 after two solid 74s to start out the tournament. The closing surge by Murray helped lead Jesuit to a strong finish at the tournament.
Jonah Fahrenbruch was steady throughout the event, posting rounds of 72-74-74, while Spencer Carter showed improvement, shooting rounds of 75-76-72 and saving his best golf for the final day. Sophomore Jackson Straley rounded out the group with rounds of 79-77-77.
“The Bart Granger is always a grind, three long rounds against the best teams in Texas. But, I think we handled it really well as a team. Everyone stayed focused, and we finished strong. It gave us a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.”
– Jonah Fahrenbruch ’27
These strong scores culminated in a sixth-place tournament finish for the Rangers, a strong and hopeful start to the Jesuit Golf season.
Junior Varsity – Wolverine Fall Classic
Jesuit’s JV took to the Trails of Frisco for their first tournament of the season, where they put a promising and strong start to their season.
Michael Nadeau ’29 led the charge in his first high school golf tournament with a round of 67, a remarkable first tournament display for the freshman and proof the he can handle the pressure of high school golf. The freshman made five birdies and only one bogey to make a memorable first introduction into Texas high school golf.
Close behind was Will Fife ’28, who carded a very strong score of 70, making four birdies and playing steady golf all day, making a great start to his high school season. Preston Alles ’27 followed with a 72, while Jack Lyssy ’29 turned in a 73, further showing the team’s promising future of young talent.
Rounding out Jesuit’s strong showing were Trey Tomaso ’29 (76), Owen Garnett ’28 (76), Carson Melkus ’27 (77), Liam Riddle ’29 (78), and Henry Mazzu ’29 (79). With all nine players shooting in the 70s or lower, the Rangers showed remarkable depth in their lineup – a key factor making them consistently one of the top JV teams in the state.
Looking Ahead
As the fall season continues, Jesuit’s schedule will only intensify. Upcoming tournaments will feature strong Regional and State-level competition, giving the team more opportunities to test its skill and composure. For the Varsity squad, the next goal is to build momentum toward Postseason play, sharpening every aspect of their game.
Meanwhile, the JV team will continue to develop depth and experience, ensuring that the program’s future remains as strong as its present. Many of the JV players’ performances at the Wolverine Fall Classic would already be competitive at the Varsity level, displaying how Jesuit’s depth in talent runs very deep.
The success of both teams in the first two tournaments of the season, both Varsity and JV, reflect the strength of Jesuit’s golf program due to great coaching from Coach Marino and Coach Perez.
Conclusion
Two tournaments into the 2025 season, Jesuit golf finds itself in a comfortable position. The Varsity team has proven its ability to compete with the best programs in Texas, while the JV squad has shown that the future of Jesuit golf is in capable hands.
Scores like Murray’s 68, Clancy’s steady 71-73-73, and Nadeau’s 67 aren’t just impressive numbers, they’re milestones marking a team on the rise. The depth of the roster, from freshmen to seniors, means Jesuit will remain competitive, not just this season, but for years to come.
