Rock Hill XC Opener
The Jesuit Rangers Cross Country team started the striding into the season on Friday, August 15, at the Rock Hill XC Opener. The varsity team, led by Oscar Gooden ’28, finished 10th to open the season. Gooden ran a time of 10:09, the fastest of all the Ranger runners. When asked about his performance Gooden said,
“I’m proud of this effort, and all of the Jesuit boys who showed out.”
Other notable performances include Brayden Higginbotham ’26‘s personal record of a 10:21 in the Varsity field and Joaquin Lopez ’27‘s personal best of 10:58.
The Ranger JV team started the year off strong, finishing second in a competitive field. Leading the JV team, Carter Witt ’28 finished in third with an 11:03 in his first Cross Country meet as a Ranger. He was followed by Corbin Turner ’29 (11:31), Oscar Falk ’29 (11:38), Ryan Lopez ’27 (11:53), and Camden Le ’29 (11:58).
Greenhill/Luke’s Locker 6-Mile Relay
A week later, the Rangers competed at the 40th Annual Greenhill Relays and performed well against fierce competition. The Varsity “A” team, comprised of sophomores Oscar Gooden and Maddux Click ’28, and seniors Brayden Higginbotham and Ethan Irrobali ’26, finished fifth overall.
The JV “A” team, made up of Corbin Turner, sophomores Carter Witt and Jacob Guyette ’28, and Alex Shomin ’26, finished in fourth place. In the JV “B” division, the team of Daylan Le ’29, sophomores Sawyer Cole ’28 and Noah Cowley ’28, and Ryan Lopez took fourth as well.

Rick Neill Invitational and Hoka McNeil Invitational
On September 18, The Rangers competed in the Rick Neil Invitational for the fifth meet of the season. The varsity team took fifth place, with seniors Brayden Higginbotham and Ethan Irrobali finishing third and fourth, respectively. To round out the scoring for the Rangers, Jaxon Tanner ’26 finished 25th, Junior Ryan Lopez finished 31st, and Senior Alex Shomin finished 37th.
The Ranger JV dominated the competition, placing four runners in the top 10 and winning the Team Championship. Freshman Corbin Turner took third place, with Freshman Camden Le finishing fifth, Sophomore Noah Cowley in sixth, and Mateo Saenz ’29 taking seventh.

The Rangers have had a great season so far and look to continue this level of performance on October 8 at the District Championship.
