In 395 AD, the final emperor of a unified Roman Empire, Theodosius ‘The Great’, died, leaving the Empire divided in two to his young sons Honorius and Theodosius. Honorius inherited the Western part of the Roman Empire, and oversaw the greatest calamity since its founding. Barbarians sacked Rome itself in 410, which had not happened for 800 years. In 410 AD, Britain, which was composed of modern England and Wales, was abandoned to the ravages of Saxon barbarians. Civil war wracked the Empire- Africa, Britain, Gaul, and Hispania rebelled. The Roman army proved incapable of defeating barbarian invasion after invasion, and was forced to abandon frontier positions, leaving Roman citizens to their fate at the hands of barbaric savages. So extreme were these events that the Church at the time proclaimed the end of the world; the Four Horsemen themselves, Conquest, Civil War, Famine, and Death had surely been unleashed by God himself to punish Rome for its sins.
Today, though less extreme than in those ancient days, our very own Rome, our United States, suffers crisis at the hands of its incompetent ruler, our very own bungling Honorius, Joe Biden. In the East, he has threatened to abandon America’s ally Israel in its fight against its very own barbarian invasion, a despicable assault by brutish hordes seeking to rape, rob, and murder man, woman, and child alike. In Europe, he stubbornly continues to fight in Ukraine, despite Russian gains and the Ukrainian military’s lost stomach for offensives in a war broadly seen as unwinnable. Inflation ravages American markets as high interest rates kill growth, and wages fall as prices rise and the economy falters. Finally, he domestically fans the flames of division, calling his enemy dangerous and a “threat to democracy,” claiming he cannot be elected or it will mean dictatorship, while in an Orwellian demonstration of lying treachery, handing him the reins of power and promising a “peaceful transition,” further damaging his credibility and the reputation of the office of the President.
The Eastern Disaster
On Oct. 7, 2023, unwashed brutes calling themselves “Hamas” stormed across the southern border of Israel, America’s main Middle-Eastern ally. What followed was a demonstration of sheer brutality not seen since the days of Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, and Adolf Hitler. In the border villages and wherever they flew in, these brutish apes lumbered door to door, meter by meter, slaughtering men, raping and beheading women and children, and murdering babies in cribs. These terroristic half-humans lacked and lack all conception of mercy and all thought of civilization, law, and order. Muslim, Jew, and Christian alike were targets of their so-called holy war, the stated goal of which was and is to drive the Jews from Israel and make the Jordan River run red with the blood of their wives and children. Their war is one of extermination, a perfect example of Goebbels’ and Hitler’s Totaler Krieg, a war unthinkable to civilized humans, a war on women and children, on civilian and infant, whose means and ends are total destruction.
It ought to be unthinkable for anyone to fund such a war, yet it is not so to the nation of Iran. It is well known that Iran funds Hamas and other such monsters to carry out their wars against the Jews. Is it mere coincidence, then, that after Joe Biden lightened restrictions on Iran and gave them back their money which had been sitting frozen under his predecessor, Iran turned around and funded these attacks on Israel, and Oct. 7 resulted? This crisis was created, and so much unnecessary blood was shed, for Joe Biden’s folly in giving the Iranians back their money. The blame for this war, if it can be pinned on one man, is Joe Biden’s alone. Let the blood of thousands of Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike, Israeli and Palestinian, be on his hands.
Joe Biden’s response to this war was proof of his indecisiveness and incompetence. With the left half of his mouth he condemned the attacks, and no doubt sent strongly-worded letters to Hamas’s leadership. With the other half of his mouth he supported the concerns of terrorist-sympathizing, traitorous organizations funded by Iran, who expressed treasonous, defeatist, and pacifist rhetoric about Israel’s right to defend itself from a savage enemy seeking its extermination and the brutal deaths of all its citizens. He even threatened to cut off military support to Israel, vital to ensuring the survival of its citizens. We must ask ourselves- what nation would want an ally that moralizes and threatens it over the concerns of organizations funded by the enemy, when it is fighting for its survival against a barbaric foe? No nation would want such an ally, and so his cowardice and incompetence has done terrible damage to America’s reputation as an ally, even beyond the calamity that unfolds today in the region.
The Western Invasion
In Europe, Russia battles on in Ukraine, in a war that has cost the American taxpayer billions for no gain. Russia will not give up its fight, and Ukraine’s failure to launch new counteroffensives to stop Russian gains belie its inability to counterattack. Ukraine is facing a shortage of manpower after years at war, while Russia’s larger population has kept them running. Ukraine needs a 3:1 kill rate to match Russia’s population, as Russia has a population three times larger than Ukraine. They are nowhere close to that. However, Biden steadfastly refuses to consider any peace offer short of a total Ukrainian victory reclaiming regions such as Crimea and Donetsk that have been under Russian control for nearly a decade. This is pure delusion. Ukraine can no more take Sevastopol and reclaim Crimea than Germany can retake Kaliningrad. Their units are too depleted, the conflict is too stationary, and they are not gaining ground. Their minor Kursk salient is also in danger of being driven from Russia or worse, encircled. Peace must come before the situation develops even further to Ukraine’s disadvantage. Biden’s hesitancy is costing lives, money, and likely worsening Ukraine’s position at the peace table.
The war cannot go on forever. Ukraine is not Afghanistan or Iraq, and Russia is not a minor group of terrorists. Further inaction in Ukraine is likely only to cost more ill-afforded money, more irreplaceable lives, and result in more American equipment falling into Russian hands. The recent Russian advances in Donetsk further drive home that Ukraine cannot last forever, and peace must be negotiated on favorable terms before the tide turns.
The Economic Crisis
Inflation nearly reached double digits during Biden’s presidency. Wages relative to inflation have fallen by 1%, while under Donald Trump they grew about 7%. Prices have risen massively, and savings have become worth less and less. Despite supposedly avoiding a recession, the vast majority of growth in jobs came not from hiring by the private sector or new businesses, but from a massive expansion of the government. Due in part to this, the national debt has massively ballooned, and has reached levels many economists believe to be unsustainable. Under him, the economy has faltered and the people have gotten poorer than they were four years ago. He has also done very little, despite supposedly representing “blue-collar workers” and vowing to, to actually bring back manufacturing jobs.
The Election of 2024
With crisis abroad, war dragging on, wages down, and inflation on the rise, it is reasonable to wonder what Joe Biden and his party’s plan was to win reelection in 2024. The strategy that was settled on ended up being no less damaging than his presidency itself. Biden and his sycophant Harris settled on deriding anyone who could even consider voting for Donald Trump as a fascist sympathizer, with Biden even stating of Trump’s supporters, “the only garbage I see are his supporters,” even as him and his vice-president claimed to be a “president for all Americans.” In this same vein, discussion of the war in the Middle East was silenced at the DNC, where the one who would save democracy from Donald Trump was chosen without a ballot at a secret meeting of powerful families and wealthy individuals.
Furthermore, Biden’s and the Democrat leadership’s actions reveal that they never genuinely believed Donald Trump was dangerous to elect president. This is revealed by Joe Biden’s nonstop talk of a “peaceful transfer of power” after the election, inviting Trump to the White House and participating in the presidential transition willingly. This does not fit with his rhetoric of Trump being supposedly dangerous, and Harris’s statements that he “admires Hitler” and wants to be a dictator. If they truly believed Trump was a Hitlerite, they would not be transferring power to him. Their actions demonstrate that they cannot genuinely believe in all their dire warnings and threats. They have lied to the American people for an entire election season and instantly about-face on it as if they were the Soviet propaganda network. If they truly believe Trump is Hitler, then may as well have just signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, as they are openly boasting of their cooperation with him.
In Conclusion
Honorius started an era of decline for Rome that ended with the collapse of the Western Empire. However, this does not have to be the case with Joe Biden. Rome had had countless incompetent emperors before Honorius, and every time since, a man of great skill and vision came along and restored the Empire. The effects of Biden’s presidency will be immense and mostly negative, but that does not mean that we are doomed. Biden may be the Honorius of the modern era, or he may be the Severus Alexander. It remains to be seen whether the incoming president, Donald Trump, will prove better than his predecessor, and whether him or Vance will be any Aurelian or Diocletian. It will be difficult to fix the problems of these past four years, but in time it may be possible. After all, this nation has not fallen yet, and we have a great Constitution and strong traditions that the Romans never had.
