At Jesuit, we take pride in having the most robust athletic program in Dallas, supported by highly qualified coaches and trainers for every sport. Our world-class training facilities, along with a Hall of Fame roster spanning several decades, further enhance our athletic program.
Most athletes at Jesuit compete in 6A under the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the largest classification within Texas high school athletics. Given this classification, for every season, it comes as no surprise when aspiring student-athletes eagerly line up for tryouts for their favorite sport, preparing with extensive training and presenting impressive skills in hopes of securing a spot on one of our competitive teams. While our traditional Jesuit land sports such as football, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse naturally attract many participants, the expansion of the Jesuit water sports complex has made participation in water polo, crew, swimming, and diving increasingly competitive. Sports that once received less attention have now emerged as powerhouse programs at Jesuit, programs that now have our competitors a bit on edge!
Below is a summary that dives into each of these water sport programs.
Water Polo
Water Polo, under the skilled leadership of Coach Jason Gall, kicks off its season in August and continues until the end of October. Athletes practice in the morning and afternoon at the David A. Segal Family Aquatic Center, also known as “The Gull.” This year, they concluded the 2024 season with an impressive 17-13 record, showcasing their determination as they advanced to the second round of the UIL Region I-6A tournament. As the team prepares to say goodbye to a strong group of graduating seniors, the training, camaraderie, and experiences from this year are expected to propel the rising underclassmen into another year of great success. While the off-season begins in February, it’s common to find many committed and passionate water polo athletes cross-training and competing on the swim team.

Swimming and Diving
Swimming, guided under the expert leadership of Head Coach Doug Moyse and Assistant Coach Michael Meagher, hosts a season that kicks-off in September and continues into the early weeks of February. Similarly, Diving, under the direction of Head Coach Sierra Thain, shares this seasonal timeline. Regular practice takes place in the morning and afterschool in The Gull for both of these sports. The 2023-24 season was nothing short of spectacular, as they achieved an undefeated record of 10-0. They also claimed first place at the district level and went on to secure a commendable third-place finish at Regionals before finishing 16th at State. Throughout this remarkable journey, the team broke four school records, set three District 7-6A records, and established three pool records, showcasing the fastest times ever swum at the Gull. Currently active in the 2024-25 season, the team is undefeated and the atmosphere is filled with optimism and excitement. A strong core of returning swimmers, combined with a large and enthusiastic group of freshmen, has already brought impressive crowds to cheer on the team in the hopes of another round of success.

Crew
Crew is run under the leadership of Head Coach Eli Brown and Assistant Coaches Alyssa Manganello, Cambell Lang ’16, and Warren Noble; its calendar runs in two seasons: September through December (long-distance racing) and February through May (short-distance racing). Regular practices are conducted at two locations: The Dove Fieldhouse and White Rock Lake. These practices take place in the early morning and evening hours, allowing athletes to maximize their training while fitting around their academic schedules. The team’s commitment to rigorous training has already resulted in an impressive number of successful podium finishes this season, reflecting the hard work and dedication of both the coaches and the athletes. As the season progresses, the team continues to strive for an excellent close out to begin a new season in the Spring.
