Week Two of the NFL Season was one of the wildest weeks this season so far. Given there have only been two weeks so far, but still, week two was wild. With a week full of upsets, blowouts, and historically bad offensive and defensive performances, there is bound to be a ton of overreactions until next week. So, without further ado, let’s go through five overreactions from week two of the NFL season.
The Dallas Cowboys are nothing more than a wild card team until Dak’s contract is up
This Sunday was a rough day for the Cowboys. They let the New Orleans Saints walk into their home field and waltz into the end zone 6 straight times to start the game. 6 straight touchdown drives with Derek Carr under center. This loss for the Cowboys is not only detrimental, but also unacceptable and embarrassing. And it’s not just the defense. The Dak Prescott-led offense put up 19 points with Dak throwing 2 interceptions and Ezekiel Elliott averaging 2.7 yards per carry for 16 yards. The Cowboys should be ashamed of themselves. And now, for the first time since 2020, there is a good chance that the Dallas Cowboys start 1-2 in the most mortifying way possible. The entire team let down their fanbase last this Sunday. Just chalk up the whole season at this point. This team is horrendous.
The San Fransisco 49ers without Christian McCaffrey is like a Jesuit Student without an ID
Should get a PH, is what I mean by that. The entire 53-man roster of the Niners should fly down to Jesuit Dallas and serve a PH with how shameful their loss was. They were truly representing their organization badly. In a game against the Minnesota Vikings led by Sam Darnold, all the 49ers can muster up is a loss 23-17. The offense can’t do anything without Christian McCaffrey. The 49ers didn’t just struggle offensively. To start the game, the Niners defense gave up a 97 yard touchdown to Justin Jefferson. And, special teams was a problem. On their first four drives, the Niners went three in out in their first, had a blocked punt in their second, and ended on downs in their last 2. To star the second half, their first three drives went punt, interception, and then fumble. You know what I think? I think the 49ers are going to be behind in the division standings when Christian McCaffrey returns and they will have to work from behind for the latter half of the year. However, they are still the 49ers, they just forgot their ID. And their ID is on IR, so at least 4 weeks until they get it back.
Dan Campbell’s risky coaching style will cost the Lions in the playoffs again
The Detroit Lions lsat year were one of the best teams in the league. They started out the year winning against the defending super bowl champs, and then waltzed their way to a division title and 3rd seed berth. And after two wins, they faced off against the 49ers in the NFC Championship. And while they played a good fight, they eventually fell 34-31 to the Super Bowl runner ups. But the thing about that loss, is that it could have been so avoidable. The Lions led 24-7 at halftime, and up 24-10, they faced a 4th and 2 at the San Fransisco 28. A field goal kick would put them up 27-10, and add 3 points to their lead. However, they went for it, and the pass fell incomplete. And after a quick fumble, punt, and 2 Niners’ touchdowns and 1 field goal, the Lions faced a similar situation, 4th and 3 at the San Fransisco 30. A kick, would have tied the game, and paired with another kick from earlier, would have given them the lead. However, they went for it, and the pass fell incomplete. Against the Buccaneers in week 2, Dan Campbell faked a 4th and 12 punt at the Lions own 20 yard line. and while it worked out, don’t be fooled by one cool play, Campbell’s risky play calling could end Detroit’s Super Bowl hopes later in the year.
The Green Bay Packers will have a winning record by the time Jordan Love returns
The Green Bay Packers dodged a bullet when Jordan Love’s injury turned out to be a sprained MCL. He was supposed to be out 4-6 weeks, but his coach refused to list him as out for the Colts game until game day. That shows confidence that Love could return as early as week 4. And they don’t play a truly difficult opponent until arguably week 6, when they face off against the Arizona Cardinals. That means the Packers can ride with Malik Willis until Jordan Love is absolutely positive he can play. And all those rumors about a Trey Lance trade or signing Ryan Tannehill can go away. The Packers shouldn’t need to do anything special at the quarterback position, because Jordan Love should be back in no time, and if he returns in week 4 or 5, he should have a winning record to work with as the Packers fight with the Lions for first in the division.
The Miami Dolphins need to rethink Tua Tagovailoa’s future in the NFL
This is where the article becomes less of an overreaction, and more of a safety seminar. Tua Tagovailoa was injured on Thursday Night Football, and was ruled out with a concussion during the third quarter. This was his 4th concussion of his professional football career. The idea of retirement needs to be a serious talk. Concussions are a dangerous thing, and Tua has already had 4 of them in his career, including 3 in his 5 years of NFL football. Ask any high school, college, or NFL coach, and you will get the same answer. The fact that Mike McDaniels is even considering encouraging him to play shows how careless he is as a head coach. I get he wants his franchise QB to play, but sometimes it just doesn’t matter. Now back to Tua. I know nobody wants to stop playing football, but this is a serious dilemma regarding his health and life outside of football. I don’t know if this is what Tua Tagovailoa wants to do, but he needs to rethink returning to the NFL if this is how its gone so far.Â
What has been the craziest week in recent history has been capped off with a surprising Atlanta Falcons win over the Philadelphia Eagles, and while I can’t really say anything because my team also lost, I would like to say that the Eagles are embarassing themselves just as much as the Cowboys. What I would also like to mention is “Fly, Eagles, Fly,” but the Falcons flew higher. Until next week.
