Feeding the 4500 on Thanksgiving

-

“It was a refreshing experience serving the disadvantaged in our community. Definitely, the best way to spend the holidays.”- Logan Thompson 24″

On Thanksgiving morning, Jesuit provided meals to 4,500 individuals who were unable to afford a meal for the holidays. This event was hosted by Visiting Nurse Association’s Meals on Wheels event. On a cold, wet, and early morning, dozens of Jesuit students and parents showed up to help give meals to the hungry. Athletes, debaters, musicians; every part of Jesuit was well-represented.

At the event, students would organize, divide, and place meals into the bags with tags corresponding to drivers outside. Once a driver arrived, a Jesuit student would receive a number and “run” inside to grab the bags. Once out of the bags, they would be delivered by the driver to the doorstep of the recipient. Each person received some turkey, sides, and a roll close to a typical thanksgiving dinner.

This program has been going on for over 20 years and is a great representation of Jesuit students embodying our school motto: Men for Others.

“It is an early morning for everyone, however I couldn’t think of any other way to spend my thanksgiving day other than helping those who are less fortunate” – Senior ISC Member Anthony Lucido 23″

While it is an early wake-up call, I highly recommend anyone to come next year. It gives you a sense of fulfillment and really puts into perspective how many things Jesuit students take for granted. Be thankful for the things that many people do not have this holiday season.

Stay tuned to the Roundup for more community service events! Happy Holidays!
