District Meet
On Thursday, October 13th, the Jesuit Cross Country team competed in their district meet against the top teams in the area. The Rangers finished second in the Varsity race, earning them a spot in the regional meet. The Junior Varsity team finished third.
Leading the way for the Rangers was Junior Charlie Thorton who finished tenth overall with a time of 16:58. Right behind him was senior captain Ben McKinney with a time of 17:03. Junior Francisco Almaguer finished fifteenth with a time of 17:09, and seniors Jack Betz and Aldo Avila ran times of 17:17 and 17:22. Junior Henry Beckman ran in his first meet since returning from injury and ran a time of 17:47, and Junior Drew Lamberson ran a 17:55. It was a great performance from the Rangers, and they moved on to the regional meet in Lubbock.
In the Junior Varsity race, the Rangers finished third behind strong performances from Freshman Ethan Irrobali, Junior Jackson Schutze, and Senior Griffin Fellows. Ethan finished first overall winning the first event of his Jesuit career. Jackson Schutze also finished top ten for the Rangers with a time of 18:23. Seniors Griffin Fellows and Jacob Ovenshire were also among the top finishers with times of 18:33 and 18:48.
Regional Meet
Thanks to the stellar performances in the district meet, the Rangers advanced to the Region I Championship in Lubbock. Seven runners competed in the meet, and Jesuit finished eleventh. This was one of the toughest courses that the team had seen all year, and they delivered with Charlie Thorton leading the way once again. He finished thirty-ninth with a time of 16:32. Right behind him was senior Aldo Avila with a personal best time of 16:55. Also finishing in the top 100 were Henry Beckman, Jack Betz, and Francisco Almaguer. All of the top five runners also finished in the top ten runners from District 7-6A. This was a great team performance and a huge improvement from the district meet. Jesuit bested district winner Highland Park by over one hundred points in the regional competition. All in all, this was an admirable team effort from the team and a great way to end the season.
