What should we look out for given that the Regional and State tournaments are on the horizon for the Jesuit Wrestling Team? This season has been one of many ups and downs, but characterized by unseen levels of greatness, proven by record-shattering performances dotted throughout the year.
Having blazed through the year so far, only one challenge remains for the team: the Playoffs. A goal for any wrestler is to make and win the State tournament at the end of the year, a goal that remains unchanged for the Varsity squad this year, with many members of the team having serious chances to do incredibly well in these Postseason endeavors.

Regionals Intrigue and District Results
With the dust settling over the district tournament, eight wrestlers are setting their sights on regionals following standout postseason performances. The standout group features one sophomore, one junior, and six seniors, each earning their spot and carrying momentum into the next round. As the postseason continues, they now look ahead to regionals with confidence and their crosshairs aimed at the state tournament. Varsity member Duncan Blankenship ’28 puts that,
“All of our regional guys have big expectations on them, but I think they can deliver,”
a quote which highlights the level of confidence the team has in itself. What happened at the district meet that propelled these great wrestlers forward? Jesuit placed fourth out of ten with a combined 140 points. Jesuit had one first place, two second places, three third places, and two fourth places. The team rankings are Rockwall Heath in first with 259 points followed by Rockwall, who had six first place finishers, Lake Highlands, Jesuit, Pearce, Richardson, Mesquite, Mesquite Horn, Berkner, and Skyline.

Kingston Stephens ’26
In a record-breaking season for the Rangers, many names have stood out among the rest, casting great expectations going into these Playoff tournaments. One of the standout names in this cast is Kingston Stephens ’26, the undefeated senior looking to right his wrong and take the first-place prize at the State tournament. Essentially untested this year, Kingston placed third at state last year after a dominate season and is the favorite to make a “Barn Burner” at State before going off to more than likely wrestle at a collegiate level.

Major Injuries
While the Dual Season started with an incredible outlook, several season-ending injuries took place, which debilitated integral members of the team, and forced either inexperienced wrestlers to take their place or shuffled veteran wrestlers out of their preferred weight class, leading to several unfortunate losses due to forfeits or huge weight gaps. Captain Luke Bloodworth ’26 suffered a season-ending ACL tear at practice at the start of the season, causing a devastating gap at 190 lbs. and forcing a first-year wrestler to take his place. Patrick Seefeldt-Tavares ’28 suffered leg breakage at a private session, causing a gap at 150 lbs. which several Varsity members had to fill. Nate Sabogal ’26 was plagued with several injuries all year, eventually leading to him being out for the end of the season and leaving a spot at 126 lbs. for Henry Hefner ’28 to fill.

The Team
Going by weight class, the regional team consists of Adam Jackson 28′ at 106, Kingston Stephans 26′, a three-time district champion at 113, Dash Llana 26′ at 120, Alex Shomin 26′ at 132, Thomas Czuppon ’26 at 138, Trevor Leap ’26 at 165, Mike McCoy ’27 at 175, and Parker Sherman ’26 at 285.
Conclusion
As the Rangers continue to move forward into the regionals, it is evident that this is a team that has the skill and determination to succeed when it matters most. Despite the fact that this season has been one of change and adaptation, Jesuit has continued to play at an elite level, relying on the experience and determination of their seasoned veterans, as well as the emergence of their flourishing underclassmen. With a lineup that is dominated by seniors, the pressure and experience are there, and the objective is the same as it has been all season: to win through the regionals and into the state tournament. However, regardless of the outcome, this is a team that has already made this season one to remember, and now they have the chance to cap it off at the highest level possible.
