New Opponents, Same Task: Jesuit District Realignment

-

Every two years, there is a division realignment in the UIL. On February 3rd, it was announced that Jesuit would be joining a new District, District 6-6A for football and basketball. Teams include Prosper, Rock Hill, Walnut Grove, Allen, Princeton, McKinney, and McKinney Boyd.

Prosper

Prosper went 11-2 in football and at the time of writing is 11-17 in basketball in 2025-2026. Known for their football, Prosper ranked 8th in Texas and 61st in the nation this school year. They are a powerhouse dynasty for years to come in the high school football scene. Prosper will be an exciting team to play.

Rock Hill

Rock Hill went 5-5 in football in 2025 and are currently 7-20 in basketball at the time of writing. Rock Hill, located in Frisco, is another tough opponent for Jesuit as Rock Hill is familiar with some of the other teams in the division.

Walnut Grove

Walnut Grove, another powerhouse, went 12-1 in football in 2025 and is currently 20-8 in basketball. Walnut Grove is a well-rounded school, ranking top 100 in all of Texas in basketball and top 50 in all of Texas in football. Walnut Grove will be one of the top competitors in the district.

Allen

Allen is one of if not the biggest school in Texas. Known for their sports, Allen went 14-1 in football in 2025 and is 18-5 in basketball. Allen Football is ranked 6th in Texas with a lot of star power and is top 40 in the nation and in basketball is ranked top 20 in all of Texas. Allen will be a great opponent to play against.

Princeton

The Princeton Panthers went 6-4 in their most recent season of football and is currently 15-13 in basketball. Princeton is located west of McKinney and north of Garland so it will be quite the distance for Jesuit, like some of the other teams.

McKinney

McKinney’s football team went 3-7 in 2025 and is currently 16-9 in basketball. McKinney’s basketball team, being their strong suit, is 54th in Texas and recently beat the final team in the district in which I haven’t mentioned.

McKinney Boyd

Last but certainly not least is McKinney Boyd. McKinney Boyd is only 4.2 miles away from McKinney. Boyd had a rough football season, going 1-9 and not winning a single game in district. However, their basketball team is 17-11 and is 92nd in all of Texas.

Reactions

I asked Coach Hickman, Coach Hill, and one Jesuit student about their thoughts about this realignment. First, Coach Hickman expressed his excitement for this realignment because it can expand the brand saying:

“We get the chance to compete against different 6A opponents in bigger environments. We are going to embrace this new opportunity with great passion and enthusiasm. Every game is a chance for our team to compete and showcase its talents. Our players play extremely hard and will represent Jesuit with class in everything we do. We look forward for the opportunity to bring the Jesuit brand further north.”
Similarly, Coach Hill expressed his eagerness and how the district will be harder:
“I think it is always exciting when we get the opportunity to compete with new schools. I’m really looking forward to it. It will definitely be stronger overall in basketball which I enjoy. Our job is to get our teams as good as we can, so the players will have to compete at a higher level and going against strong opponents is the best way to improve. There will be a lot of new challenges and opportunities so we’re looking forward to it seeing how it goes.”
Lastly, I asked the student leader of Jesuit Sports Media, Sebastian Dunn, his thoughts on the matter, where he expressed a higher standard, but one Jesuit wants stating:
“This realignment is a huge challenge, but it’s the kind of challenge Jesuit wants. Playing programs like Allen and Prosper raises the standard every single week. From a sports media perspective, it also gives us the chance to tell bigger stories against some of the best competition in the state.”

Conclusion

Overall, this realignment is great for the school and has everyone excited for what is coming next for Jesuit Athletics. Stay tuned next year to see how Jesuit will tackle these new opponents.
