Jesuit Wrestling’s Newsworthy 2025

-

Between hitting Varsity Win milestones and placing at tournaments, to featuring in local news, the Jesuit Wrestling team has made quite the splash this season.

Senior Kingston Stephens has dominated the competition this year with a 27-0 record posted this year, impressively medaling in every tournament he has competed in. Accordingly, he has won his weight class at every single tournament he’s competed on.

Local media quickly got wind of his exploits on the mat, with the Preston Hollow People running a story on Kingston within their sports section. The team as a whole remains hopeful as the postseason quickly approaches, hoping to send multiple people to state, and walk away with at least one medal.

Duals

It has not been only individual achievements though. The team performed very successfully in its duels up to this point, posting a 6-1 dual record with a sole loss being a narrow 37-38 loss to JJ Pierce brought about by two Ranger forfeits at 150 lbs and 156 lbs.

Starting off the season, the Rangers dominated McKinney Boyd 47-33 and continued rolling for wins against both Richardson and St. Marks.

At the Highland Park Quad meet on January Tenth, where the Rangers faced tough opposition from a JJ Pierce squad they had already lost to on senior night, the team managed to come away with a 3-1 record against the teams faced, even avenging the senior night loss to Pierce with a healthy 48-36 victory.

Another significant win came against longtime rivals Bishop Lynch, who the Rangers narrowly toppled 38-34, with pins from Kingston Stephens ’26, Alex Shomin ’26, Trevor Leap ’26, and Duncan Blankenship ’28 propelling the squad towards victory.

Tournaments

Jesuit has had significant tournament performances as well. With a top-10 finish as a team in four separate tournaments, and at minimum one first place finish at every tournament, the Rangers look confident as the start of postseason in February draws closer.

The Richardson Roundup saw 3 Rangers win gold with Seniors Kingston Stephens, Alex Shomin, and Trevor Leap all winning their weight classes, at 113, 132, and 165 respectively. Mike McCoy ’27 placed fourth at 175 as well, bringing the Rangers placement total to four in the tournament.

At the Wargames tournament in Frisco, the Rangers built on their impressive podium streak, to five, with two first place finishes. Naturally, Kingston Stephens ’26 got gold, along with Alex Shomin ’26. As well, Mike McCoy ’27 and Trevor Leap ’26 both got bronze after a hard fought tournament between them.

Down in San Antonio, at the Russ Pederson invitational, the Rangers continued a strong 2025 campaign with a 6th place finish. Once again, Kingston Stephens ’26 medaled, with Mike McCoy also earning a gold.
