Dallas sports fans have had a roller‑coaster year, filled with moments of happiness, heartbreak, and some gut-wrenching disappointments. From the football field to the basketball court, every Dallas team has faced its own challenges and milestones, giving fans something to cheer about, or scream about, nearly every week. With the season in full swing for some and the offseason heating up for others, it’s the perfect time to take a look at where each Dallas team stands, what’s changed since last season, and what the future might hold for America’s sports capital.
NFL – Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys exited last season as one of the most disappointing teams in the league. After finishing just 7-10 on the year and seeing multiple key players get injured over the course of the season, players such as Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Demarcus Lawrence, and Micah Parsons. The team went into free agency with a team that needed much improvement and players that needed extensions, as well as a new coach. They were able to knock out some extensions, paying Tyler Smith and Osa Odiguizua. They were also able to trade for George Pickens. However, those contracts and trades came at a cost, as their free agency was mainly summed up in one Micah Parsons trade. Jerry Jones, after months of stalling, sent Micah Parsons packing to Green Bay and welcomed in Kenny Clark. The Cowboys were hoping Kenny would vastly improve the Cowboys’ run defense. However, after nine weeks of Cowboys football, it has been clear that the defense lacks one Micah Parsons.
Now, the Cowboys hope to bounce back and fix a season that has had them fall to 3-5-1 on the year. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense have been rolling all year, but in all honesty, they have struggled in the past two weeks, leading some to believe maybe this version of the Cowboys’ offense is the one that will stay. All it takes is some time to see where this season goes. However, more than likely, the Cowboys will remain on this pace and miss the playoffs a second year in a row. However, the Cowboys did trade for Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson, so fans are waiting to see how this trade works out for them. Maybe it can turn around the defense and help Dallas snag some key wins down the stretch. On the other hand, this trade might do absolutely nothing for them and culminate in a disappointing end to the season. Who knows at this point?
Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks entered the 2024-25 season with high hopes. After a solid start, those hopes came crashing down when February 1st came around, and Nico Harrison sent All-NBA star guard Luka Doncic packing to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. This move immediately backfired on the Mavericks. The ownership went under fire, and the Lakers immediately sprouted to the number two seed in the West. After an injury to Anthony Davis and then an ACL-tear for Kyrie Irving, the Mavericks finished 39-43 and lost their second play-in game to be completely eliminated from the postseason. Luckily for them, they received the number one overall pick and drafted Cooper Flagg. They also added D’Angelo Russell and hoped to make a good team post Luka Doncic. However, the team has struggled as of late, starting 3-9. Lastly, the Mavs ownership answered the call and fired Nico Harrison. The Mavericks hope to recover from a terrible start and bounce back, but they’ll have to do so without Kyrie Irving until way later in the season.
Texas Rangers

The Rangers had an improved but still disappointing 2025 season. After trading for Jake Burger and signing Joc Pederson, the Rangers hoped to bounce back from their championship slump season. However, nothing went to plan early in the season. Joc Pederson severely regressed from his form the season before, and then eventually suffered a major injury. The Rangers sat at 29-35 in early June. Then, something picked up. The Rangers were able to improve to 48-49 by the All-Star break. Post All-Star break, the Rangers started 8-1, with wins over the then best team in baseball Detroit Tigers. Then, the Rangers maintained their .500 record for a month or so before finally, the season caught up to them. Joc Pederson improved from his early season form, but Corey Seager suffered an injury and the season never fully got on track. The Rangers finished the year 81-81 and missed the playoffs. Now, they look to make some difficult key decisions about roster building going into free agency (Adolis Garcia, Marcus Semien, the bullpen?). They also should consider signing Japanese phenom Munetaka Murakami to help boost the bats.
Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars had a strong season last year, making the playoffs and giving fans plenty to cheer about with a few truly iconic wins. Led by Jason Robertson’s dynamic play and Jake Oettinger’s clutch goaltending, the team showed it could compete with anyone in the league, pulling off some thrilling victories that became instant highlights. For instance, Mikko Rantanen, who was traded from the Avalanche to the Stars, pulled off a thrilling series against his former team in the playoffs in which the Stars won in seven games. In total, they made a solid push in the postseason but fell short of the deep run many fans hoped for, leaving a sense that the team was close to something special. This offseason, Dallas has focused on keeping the core intact while adding a few key pieces to strengthen depth and sharpen the defense. As the new season started pretty solid for Dallas, the Stars look poised to build on last year’s momentum, with fans hopeful that this could be the year they turn those memorable moments into a serious playoff run. However, they must be careful not to let the demons of last season’s Oilers series haunt them.
Dallas Wings

The Dallas Wings wrapped up the 2025 season with a 10‑34 record, clearly still in rebuild mode but they did lay some important groundwork for the future. They selected UCONN phenom Paige Bueckers with the No. 1 overall pick before the season. Though they struggled to win games consistently, Bueckers flashed star‑caliber talent from day one, averaging around 19.2 points and 5.4 assists, breaking multiple rookie scoring records, and giving Dallas reason for optimism. Meanwhile, the roster was often harmed by injuries forcing last-minute lineup changes. As the offseason begins, the focus shifts to building around Bueckers. Dallas must add veteran pieces, stabilize the rotation and coaching staff, and prove that this is a real step toward competitiveness. If the Wings plan on contending with Bueckers, they have to prove that they can do that by making moves to surround her with talent.
Final Thoughts
It is clear that Dallas sports fans are in for an interesting ride. Some teams are rebuilding, some are hoping to turn promising or unpromising starts into playoff berths and runs, while others are trying to find consistency after last season’s ups and downs (mainly downs). Between bold trades, rising stars, and high-stakes games on the horizon, there’s plenty to watch and cheer for, as well as to groan and complain about. However, at the very least, every fan can celebrate that Nico Harrison is out in Dallas.
