Jesuit Puts Down Irving in a Strong Start to the District

-

On Thursday, September 25, the Dallas Jesuit Rangers went down to Irving High School, earning a dominant victory against the Tigers, putting up 52 points to Irving’s measly 13.

Heading into the game, the Rangers were coming off of three tough losses to Hebron, Jesuit New Orleans, and Highland Park. One Jesuit student, Preston Alles ’27, gave his insight on the football team and his opinion about the Irving game, several days prior to it during the Bye Week:

“We’re 0-3, and we’ve only gotten two offensive touchdowns. irving is not very good, so i think we can beat them. [additionally,] we showed signs of improvement at the hp game, so that could be a good sign for the team.”

Indeed, the Rangers pulled off the win against Irving on their homecoming night, dominating 52-13.

Offense

The offense put up their best performance of the year so far, with 331 total yards, 149 passing yards, and 182 rushing yards. They stayed efficient throughout, being dominant and executing their game plan well. Quarterback Beck Berry ’26 threw for a total of 80 yards, and following close behind was J.P. Livingstone ’28, with 69 yards, both with a touchdown and combining for eight completions out of 11 throws. Leading in rushing yards were Junior Running Backs Ty Daboub ’27 and Jud Harris ’27, Daboub with 68 yards and Harris with 47. Both had a touchdown on Thursday night, one being scored through Daboub running for an exciting 52-yard breakaway. Additionally, Max Smith ’27 rushed for two touchdowns. Lastly, Cade Kirby ’26 was able to boast an impressive 112 yards with two touchdowns, his first being a 54-yard run on the first play of the second offensive series.

Defense

The defense had a commanding game, with no touchdowns let up in the first quarter and many electrifying turnovers, continuing to be a strong presence on the field. Leading the defense with tackles was Senior Outside Linebacker Cole Wombacher ’26, with a total of six: three solo and three assisted. Following Cole with a total of four tackles each were Safety Cabe Weissmeuller ’26, Inside Linebacker Joe Norman ’26, and Safety Miller Stevenson ’27. Now for turnovers, Inside Linebacker Gabe James ’26 had pick six, but it was sadly called back due to penalty. Another Inside Linebacker Jackson Gair ’27 was able to put up a punt block and scoop and score, with a nice bulldoze for the touchdown. In addition, Defensive Lineman Tanner Krug ’26 and Norman were able to a force fumbles, and although Norman was able to recover his, Krug’s unfortunately was not.

“It was a great game all around. offense and defense were firing on all cylinders. i think it’s the most accurate portrayal of our team this year.” -Safety mack murphy ’27

Although the season has been a bit rough, this game served as a strong start to the District season, going 1-0 in District games. Make sure to be at Ranger stadium this Friday to watch the Rangers take on Pearce. Good luck Rangers!
