Jesuit and Highland Park Face Off in Annual Tollway Tussle

-

On Friday, September 12, Jesuit faced off against their biggest rival Highland Park in the annual Tollway Tussle, losing 14-42.

Summary

The game started off quick with a 26-yard pass from HP’s starting QB Buck Randall to Case Messer to make it 7-0 HP. After two big 40+ yard touchdowns – a 45-yard passing touchdown from Buck to Cannon Bozman, and a 77-yard rushing touchdown from another player – the score became 21-0 HP at the end of the first quarter. However, in the second and third quarters, Jesuit chipped back with a passing touchdown from QB Beck Berry ’26 to Cade Kirby ’26. HP responded with a 72-yard passing touchdown, and Jesuit fought back with a rushing touchdown from Beck to make it 28-14 HP. Unfortunately, the game slipped away from Jesuit as HP scored 14 points in the fourth quarter which made the final 42-14 HP.

Statistics

Defensively, Tanner Krug ’26 and Cole Wombacher ’26 shined for Jesuit. Krug and Wombacher both had eight tackles (Krug had four solo, four assisted and Wombacher had five solo, three assisted), and they both had 2.5 tackles for a loss. Additionally, Krug earned himself two sacks versus HP and a third sack from Jesuit came from Cole Johnson ’27.

On the offensive side, Jesuit recorded a season high 316 yards compared to HP’s 476 yards. Starting QB Beck Berry ’26 went 20-35 (57% completion rate) with two touchdowns, one being on the ground and one in the air. Beck also led the team in rushing yards with 96 on 12 attempts. JP Livingstone ’28 came in after Beck and went 1-3 (33% completion rate) with zero touchdowns and one interception. Receiving-wise, Joseph Konings ’27 led the team with 71 receiving yards on four receptions with Max Smith ’27 leading right behind him with 43 receiving yards on five attempts.

Final Thoughts

I think that the score of the game does not tell the full story. Jesuit played well and hung with HP for most of the game before they slipped away at the very end. Jesuit will be going to Irving to start District play on Friday, September 26. Come and support the Rangers!
