UIL, TAPPS, SPC Collide as Jesuit Swimming and Diving Moves to 6-0

Jesuit picked up 11 event wins en route to victories in a double-duel against Greenhill and Parish. The Rangers beat the Hornets 138-45, while upending the Panthers 163-15. This puts Jesuit at 6-0, marking the best start the Rangers have had since the 2021-2022 season. Overall, Jesuit looked great and is sure to have success in the second half of the season.

The Meet

Jesuit started off strong, going 1-2 in the 200 Medley Relay. The “A” Team, featuring Jonah Ruhl, William Savarese, Luke Lary, and Sam Kennington combined for a total time of 1:40.64. The “B” relay (Drew Shippey, Teddy Schrer, Flynn Hughes, and Sebastian Suwanda) came up in 2nd with a time 1:46.49. Suwanda would split a 22.56 to out touch Greenhill’s Daniel Walker to secure second place.

After that Jesuit put together a string of wins. Freshmen Michael Tobin would finish the 200 Freestyle in first with a time of 2:02.35. He would barely out touch Greenhill’s Henry Lipnick by a third of a second. Senior William Savarese would follow that with a dominating win in the 200 Individual Medley, finishing with a time of 1:51.81. Sam Kennington continued his dominance in the 50 free, finishing first with a time of 22.59. Jesuit’s divers did not disappoint, with Trey Graves taking first with a score of 166.55. Sophomore Flynn Hughes (55.34) and Freshmen Drew Shippey (56.54) would go 1-2, picking up a wealth of points for the Rangers. Jesuit would follow that with another 1-2 finish in the 100 free, where Luke Lary (50.20) would out touch his teammate Sebastian Suwanda (50.25).

 

The next portion of the meet began with a great showing by a trio of freshmen in the 500 free. JP McCosker (5:28.69) and Michael Tobin (5:30.62) finished 1st and 2nd, respectively. Peter Hasik would round out Jesuit’s freshmen with a 5:59.13. Following the 500 Free, Jesuit’s 200 Free “A” Relay consisting of Sam Kennington, Teddy Scherer, Luke Lary, and Jonah Ruhl would take the win with a time of 1:32.64. The next two events would go relatively well for the Rangers. Greenhill’s Zachary Geller would out touch the Rangers’ Jonah Ruhl in the 100 back. Then William Savarese would dominate the 100 breast with a time of 57.86, winning the event by almost seven seconds. To close out of the meet, the team of Luke Lary, Sebastian Suwanda, Flyn Hughes, and William Savarese would win the 400 Free Relay.

Looking Ahead

Next semester, the Rangers have a busy schedule. They open up the second half of the year with a quad meet against Highland Park, JJ Pearce, and Tyler Legacy. After that, the Rangers return home for the regular season finale, a tri-meet against Frisco Wakeland and Frisco Heritage. The meet will also serve as senior night.

The post season opens with the District 7-6A Championships at the Alfred J. Loos Aquatic Center ins Addison. Then the Rangers return to Westside Aquatic Center for the Region 2-6A Championships. To conclude the season, qualifiers travel to the University of Texas’s Lee and Joe Jamail Swimming Center for the UIL 6A State Championships.
