The outcome of your life is determined by a series of choices, either big or small, these choices determine your future. College is a monumental landmark in life, a landmark that you will remember for the rest of your life. With over 24,624 colleges/universities around the world, choosing a college can be a heavy and frightening choice.
Jesuit Dallas offers College Night, offering a diverse range of schools stretching across the country. College night is a yearly event at Jesuit Dallas, open to juniors attending school located near Jesuit. On September 12, we hosted 161 colleges, each represented by a college representative. Juniors roam the halls, in the search for the college that fits them. Tables were set up in the gym, Terry Center, and cafeteria, and each college had a booth, where pamphlets and beloved stickers were placed. These pamphlets provided statistics about the school and interesting facts.
Why Attend as a Junior?
Many juniors may wonder whether it’s too early to start thinking about college. The short answer: it’s never too early. Attending a College Fair in your junior year allows you to:
- Explore Your Options: The world of higher education is vast, and by attending a College Fair, you can explore a multitude of schools in one place. You may discover institutions you hadn’t considered before or learn about unique programs that align with your interests.
- Ask Questions: College representatives are there to provide information and answer your questions. This is your chance to inquire about majors, campus life, scholarships, and admission requirements.
- Gather Information: As you start crafting your college list, you’ll need accurate and up-to-date information. College Fairs offer brochures, pamphlets, and other materials that can help you make informed decisions.
Meet Admissions Officers: Building connections with admissions officers can be invaluable. Remembering a face and a conversation can make a positive impression when it’s time to submit your application.
Mr. McDaniel, Junior counselor describes college night as an experience to “expand the student’s scope of available schools.: Most knowledge of college is due to exposure from family or social media, but college nights allow exploring colleges from different regions around the country. Mr. McDaniel shares how
“Colleges appreciate our students. They always remark on the quality of questions they ask and how polite and interesting Jesuit students are. It certainly is nice to make a positive impression on schools before the application process.”
Having a positive relationship with colleges offers future students the ability to meet and match with schools.
College night allowed many Jesuit students the ability to explore different collegiate options while learning about schools they never heard of. College night gives students a pathway into their college future.
