Animal of the Week #1: Anteater

An anteater walks into a bar, and the bartender says “why the long face?” the anteater says “i was born with it.”

What is an Anteater:


The anteater is a unique mammal known for its long, tubular snout and thin but long tongue, which it uses to feed on ants and termites. They are native to Central and South America and come in several species, with the giant anteater being the largest and most well-known. Anteaters have a solitary and nocturnal lifestyle, relying on their keen sense of smell to locate their insect prey in the wild.

1. When in a defensive posture, anteaters will stand on their hind legs as seen in the picture, which is pretty flipping sick
2. An anteaters tongue can grow up to 48 inches in length and is covered in spines
3. Female anteaters give birth standing up
4. Anteaters have no teeth
5. Anteaters are fast runners, reaching speeds up to 30 mph
