Highland Park Game 1 – 3/31/23:

This game was a nail-biter from start to finish and one of the best games of the year. The Rangers traveled to Scotland Yard on a beautiful Friday to take on the 20th-ranked HP Scots. But the Rangers were ready and confident with senior ace Luke Isett on the bump. The Scots had their guy on the mound too and the Rangers had their hands full, striking out fourteen times.

The Scots had the leadoff man on base for the first five innings, but with scrappy pitching and defense, the game went into the sixth inning 0-0. Luke Isett was pulled after an amazing outing going 5.1 innings allowing six hits, 1 run, and five strikeouts. Senior Jack Barr would pitch the remainder of the game and extra innings. Barr allowed no hits, walked one, and struck out three Scouts batters. The Rangers pieced together one run in the top of the sixth and then the Scots matched them with a run of their own. The roaring crowd, only grew louder as the game went into extras 1-1.

With a big win the night prior, the Rangers hope to complete the sweep against HP with a weekend win. Sophomore Dillon Brandt took the mound for the Rangers. Brandt had an absolute dominant performance, completely surprising the Scots. He threw a complete game, only allowing five hits, two walks, and struck out three. He didn’t allow any runs, holding back the Scot’s offensive power. The Scots left bases loaded multiple times, and Brandt got out of many jams. The Rangers bounced back from the previous night’s struggles with nine hits, scoring in bunches.
