Jesuit Soccer Strides Into Playoffs

-

Finishing the regular season strong with a 3-0 win against MacArthur, the team appears to be in good shape and has strong outlook to go further through the playoffs this year, especially coming off of a four-game unbeaten streak. Jesuit Soccer recently celebrated the team’s senior night on Friday, March 3rd. The win preceded by the tie against Pearce establishes the team’s record within the regular season with an impressive 10 wins, four ties, and five losses. These matches displayed the versatility and strong performance of the team in anticipation of playoffs.

“The team lived up to expectations and I’m really proud of how we’ve all come together and performed this season.” – Mario Zamora ’25

J.J Pearce – 3rd March (T 0-0)

The Rangers side performed well in a competitive and difficult matchup against strong opponent J.J Pearce. Various attacks and shots were made during the game however to no avail against the Mustangs or Jesuit defense. Towards the end of both periods, the Rangers made promising plays and held momentum but without success. The match saw some great saves and effort from goalies Cole Hines and Christian Rodriguez who had one and two saves respectively.

“We got better every game, the effort was good.” – Varsity Head Coach DeLong

MacArthur – 7th March (W 3-0)

This match against MacArthur was a key outing for Jesuit, any chance of making it to the playoffs was reliant on winning this game and for another district opponent to lose their match for contention. However, the Rangers lived up to expectations in the game winning three to nothing. The team played this match on the offensive with seventeen shots, and nine shots on goal, compared to MacArthur’s five total shots and one shot on goal. James McCrea, Hugh Rudnicki, and Jason Ogbolu all finished the match with one goal. The team’s defense also exceeded goals and expectations in the match, stopping any prospective goal attempts before they made it to the net. Goalkeeper Cole Hines had one save, and goalie Christian Rodriguez with none, although conceding no goals attested to the impressive overall team performance during the game.

Due to the team’s excellent performance and the well-aligned loss of another playoff for contenders, the team made it through to the bi-district round where the team’s momentum from this four-game unbeaten streak will propel them forward.
