Jesuit Track Starts off Strong at the Texas Tech

-

This past weekend, our very own Jesuit track team made the long trip to Texas Tech for the annual Wes Kittley Under Armour Indoor HS Classic. Taking only our best runners, Jesuit Track looked to start the year fast with some high placing in this highly competitive meet.

Starting off on Friday, the 20th, Sammy McFarland ‘24 placed 103st out of 301 runners in the 60m with a time of 7.293. Also placing in the boy’s 60m, were seniors Adam Kelly and Houston Walker with times of 7.590 and 7.331 respectively.

Bright and early on Saturday, the 21st, Jesuit track had huge success in the boy’s 3000m, with all runners placing within the top 40 runners. Leading the pack, placing 10th was junior Charlie Thornton with a time of 9:34.36! Also running was junior, Drew Lamberson, placing 23rd, and seniors Aldo Avila and Francisco Almaguer placing 27th and 40th. Later in the boys 800m, again our team had both runners place within the top 30. This time, Caden Cutchall ‘24 led the way placing 15th and Henry Beckman ‘24 placing 30th. In the mile run, Charlie Thornton, once again leading, placed 29th with a time of 4:43.82. Wrapping up the day, the stage was set for the 4×400 race. Both of our teams placed within the top 25. Team A, which included Jesse Jenkins ‘25, Caden Cutchall ’24, Harlan Beucler’ 26, Charlie Humbert ’23, placed an impressive 12th place! Team B, which included Adam Kelly ‘23, Logan Thompson ‘24, Henry Bourret ‘25, Caeden Profitt ‘26, placed 21st.

Coach Robinson was pleased with his team’s performance, especially this early in the season. The runners expressed how fun it was to go and compete in a great atmosphere like Texas Tech. For some, it was the first time on an indoor track. For others, it was a great opportunity to measure their speed and condition against some of the best in Texas. Junior Sammy McFarland ‘24 had this to say about the meet. “ As a group we did pretty well, but the competition at a big meet like this is always really good. It’s always cool to go compete at a track like Tech’s.” He also expressed his excitement for the season and anticipation on how they do. Our very own editor and chief, Logan Thompson ‘24 also had this to say about his first time at this meet.

“ Everyone was happy with their times and I thought we came off the meet with a lot of confidence. It was also an opportunity to learn what we can work on before our next meet.” –Logan Thompson ’24

The Rangers’ early success seems to be just a sliver of what’s to come for the rest of the season. The Ranger’s Track Team is back at it again at McKinney Boyd February 17th-18th. Come out and support our Ranger runners as they try to sweep the competition! Stay tuned to the Roundup for more Track and Field and other news.
