Strake Fruitlessly Begs Jesuit Hockey for Mercy

-

Both teams emerge from their locker rooms. One is dressed in an ugly, moldy-green skin, the other in a stunning, blue-gold suit of the most bedazzling knightly armor.

On January 23, Jesuit Dallas defeated Strake Jesuit and Allen in the TAHA Ice Hockey State Championships.

Jesuit (4) vs. Allen (0)

Jesuit started strong in the first game of the tournament, with goalkeeper Andrew Zang ‘22 racking up a season-best of 38 saves to secure his second shut-out-win of the year.

With a power-play goal by Charlie Cohen ‘22 left in the second period, Jesuit unleashed an unrelenting fury of unanswered points, with goals from Danny Myung ‘25, Kyle Hogan ‘23, and Connor Parro ‘25.

Defenseman Mattia Campioli ‘22 noted that:

“Despite our team’s lacking record in league games, we really came to stand up against Allen in this matchup.”

Jesuit (3) vs. Strake (0)

In the second game of the tournament, Jesuit secured yet another shut-out-win against Strake. Standing shakily on the other side of the rink, Strake failed to handle an avalanche of scoring from Charlie Cohen ‘22, Kyle Hogan ‘23, and Jack Sweda ‘22.

Goalkeeper Arthur Trapp ‘22 found that:

”Strake hockey was inadequate in handling our skills[sic].”

Jesuit (5) vs. Strake (1)

Jesuit dominated Strake in the final championship game. With Charlie Cohen ‘22 scoring 52 seconds into the first period, Jesuit unleashed a fury of goals, continued from Konstantin Deshevyy ‘25, Danny Myung ‘25, and Alec Rahlfs ‘22. There was more faith in a stewed prune than in Strake.

Looking Forward: Nationals

The victory over Strake during the state championship gave Jesuit its fourth consecutive title, and eighth title in program history. Jesuit is set to compete in the 2022 Chipotle-USA Hockey High School Tournament from March 24-28 in Dallas, Texas.
