Super Bowl Predictions: 49ers or Chiefs?

-

Last weekend the AFC and NFC championships went down, and let’s just say some teams went down with them. The Packers probably got the worst end on Sunday, getting 27 skunked by the end of the first half.

With 2020’s Super Bowl preparations up and coming, let’s take a look at the games and predictions for this exciting matchup!

Summary of Division Championships

The 49ers completely shut their offense down, not allowing any points to be scored against them until the third quarter. Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t have a big impact on the game, completing only 6 passes out of 8 for 77 yards. Rather, the team decided to play through the ground most of the game, having 285 rushing yards total with Raheem Mostert leading the team with a mighty 220 yards and 4 TDs. No, that’s not a typo. F-O-U-R TDs. After being cut by six NFL teams, Raheem the dream joined the 49ers and after only a few years led them to their first Super Bowl appearance since 2013 against the Baltimore Ravens.

The 49ers were easily able to beat the Packers 37-20, with 13 of the Packers points coming from the fourth quarter in garbage time. The Kansas Chiefs game against the Tennessee Titans was a little more interesting, having a close game until the fourth quarter.

The Titans were able to hold off the Chiefs to only a 4 point lead through the third quarter, until Patrick Mahomes showed the people why he was last year’s league MVP. Near the end of the game, he threw for a 60 yard TD pass to Sammy Watkins to put them up by 18 with about 4 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The Titans had a great postseason run, however, all good things sadly have to come to an end, as the Chiefs came out with the win 35-24.

Having both had outstanding seasons this year, the 12-4 Chiefs and 13-3 49ers greatly deserve to play in Super Bowl this year, facing each other off in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium. Both teams have powerful weapons, the Chiefs mostly on offense while the 49ers mostly on defense. This Super Bowl arguably contains the most explosive offense in the league against the most solid defense in the league. This Super Bowl could change the league’s perspective on strategy, as it will truly show which part of the team matters most, offense or defense.

I predict that the 49ers will come out with a win Sunday Night. Why? Because DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. I believe having the best defense is always better, as you can’t lose if the other team doesn’t score. If you don’t believe me just ask Packers fans how it went during the first half of the NFC championship. I predict the Super Bowl to have a very high scoring game, 49ers up 38-28. They might not have one superstar RB, however their RB system has shaped their team as one of the best run teams currently in the league. I believe that if the 49ers are able to keep Mahomes on the bench while running the clock out and stop him from making big plays, then the 49ers have a really good chance at stopping the Chiefs and raising the Lombardi Trophy for the sixth time in their franchise history.
