Molly O’Sullivan is Jesuit’s new Assistant Principal of Academics who brings a wealth of experience and talent to the school. She spent the past four years as principal at Prince of Peace and prior to that at Bishop Dunne for 16 years where she was recently assistant principal. I sat down with Ms. O’Sullivan to recently to ask her about her new role at Jesuit and to know her better.
First of all, welcome to Jesuit. What are some things you would you like people at Jesuit to know about you?
I feel blown away about how blessed I am to be here at Jesuit. I’ve always pictured myself as both a mother and an educator in life. That absolutely influences my work. Another thing I’d like people to know about me is that, just like everyone else, I’m a flawed human; I’m definitely not perfect.
What attracted you to Jesuit?
Since I began working in the diocese 25 years ago, I’ve always been intrigued about Jesuit. The one thing that really drew me into Jesuit was the Jesuit Profile of the Graduate and Ignatian Spirituality.
What’s your favorite part about working at Jesuit so far?
I love seeing so much love in a single place. God’s love is recognizably present here. It was easily discernible at our first Friday Mass when you guys all held hands and prayed the “Our Father.” It was really powerful to me.
What would you like to achieve here that perhaps instills some best practices you’ve encountered at other schools you’ve worked at?
One of the things that intrigues me is a more effective way to communicate progress at Jesuit instead of the archaic grading system most schools use now. I think it could be very beneficial for the school.
How do you manage the demands of family and work?
Just like any other mother, it’s hard to handle. I’m fortunate that my husband can monitor our three children who attend Christ the King since he’s principal. It’s hard to be multiple places at once!
What is your favorite way to relax?
Pottery. I find it very relaxing and meditative.
What is something people don’t know about you?
I come from a very large, close-knit family. I have five siblings and a lot of nieces and nephews. Every summer we get together and have a family camp out together.
Pancakes or Waffles?
Waffles. Although I’m not a huge fan of either. I’d much rather have a traditional breakfast such as eggs and bacon!
