Campus Ministry Leads The Student Body in The Rosary

-

Every four years, the Campus Ministry team puts on a prayer service where the school prays the rosary together. The goal is to mix up the catholic types of prayers through the generations. This year, that prayer service landed on Friday, October 18.

Set-Up

The day before, members of the Campus Ministry homeroom opened and distributed rosaries in the Terry Center. John Sabine from the Advancement department donated a majority of the rosaries used during the prayer service.

The Prayer Service

On the day of, as students, faculty, and staff came flooding in, volunteers handed out rosaries to the freshman in the bleachers. After everyone was settled with their rosaries, Mr. Hauser and Shane Hatzmann ’21 offered reflections about their experience with the rosary. Mr. Hauser later commented, “My trust of the faith developed through family witness and my personal study how that made me kind of convinced of the rosary.”

After Hatzmann gave his reflection, the school prayed the rosary together. The rosary gave insight to many non-catholic members of the community of other Catholic forms of prayer.

Conversations Afterwards

One faculty member who was unfamiliar with the rosary was able to ask students some questions and learn some things, and students were able to ask faculty members in the class and gain some insights into the rosary there – so, in other words, it did start some great conversations as well. Ben Rodenbaugh ’20 remarked, “I thought it was a beautiful way for the community to come together in prayer.”

After the prayer service, Andrew Allred ’21 reflected, “Praying the rosary as a school was a unique and special moment for me. It brought a great sense of brotherhood and community, expanding on our goal as a school to act more ‘loving’ towards one another. I was impressed by the generous donation by John Sabine, adding more to the special experience for the school.”

A big thanks to John Sabine and all who participated in the prayer service.
