NTPGA Tour High School Invitational

Led by an impressive performance from Brian Jennings ’19, Jesuit Golf finished 4th at the Holly and Doug Brooks NTPGA Tour High School Invitational, finishing behind Frisco Wakeland, John Paul II, and Highland Park. The varsity tournament, which was on November 14, took place at the Stonebridge Hills Country Club in Mckinney.

The Jesuit team consisted of juniors Brian Jennings, John Stollenwerck, Kevin Currier, Eric Pask, and sophomore George Sweda. The combined stroke total was 309, just 1 stroke behind Highland Park’s A team.

In the individual category, Brian Jennings finished in 3rd place with a total of 73 strokes while John Stollenwerck ’19 finished in 9th place with 77 strokes. The Rangers placed 3 golfers within the top 20, with Kevin Currier finishing in 18th place individually.

Jennings finished in 3rd place after a tight playoff against golfers from John Paul II and Frisco Wakeland. Commenting on the Ranger’s performance Brian noted, “Overall it was a pretty good tournament. I played pretty well. I couldn’t get any putts to go, but I played well enough to get into the playoff. In the playoff, the other kid made a good birdie on a tough hole so I couldn’t get the job done. But, it was an overall good experience.”

John Stollenwerck described his outing: “I was pretty disappointed with my performance. I know that we could have played better and won the tournament but the conditions weren’t the best. I know that we sent a young team to the tournament without any of our seniors, so I know that we will continue to develop and improve, even in mediocre conditions.” When asked about his outlook for the rest of the season, he responded “I am very hopeful for the rest of the season. We made it to State last year and I think that we have improved greatly over the past few months, so I think that we continue to perform well in tournaments and win some going forward.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how the team performs in the coming tournaments, and the Roundup will continue to update you with the results of future tournaments.
