Varsity Basketball With an Impressive Start to the Season!

-

The phrase “Jesuit wins” is quickly becoming a commonality around campus! Fans and students are delighted with the varsity season so far as Jesuit has been playing exceptional basketball.

After an exciting first week of play, the Ranger varsity basketball team sits at an impressive 5-1. Countless hours of offseason practice, grueling early mornings, and unbeatable hard work are clearly paying off as the varsity team has been beating top competition from around the Dallas area.

Jesuit kicked off their season against Mesquite with a dominant 62-37 win. This was an exceptionally satisfying win as it was Mesquite who had beaten Jesuit in overtime just a few months prior to knock them out of the UIL 6A state playoffs.

After the immense win over Mesquite, Jesuit continued what they started and completed an impressive 71-53 win over DeSoto. This is the same DeSoto team that raised the state championship trophy back in early March after a great playoff run.

This win against Desoto was the first of four games that Jesuit would play in Frisco during Thanksgiving break. Jesuit further continued their dominance as they went 4-0 in the Thanksgiving tournament, beating teams such as Lewisville, Trinity Christian, and the OKC Storm. This impressive tournament run put the Rangers at 5-0 heading into Thanksgiving.

Unfortunately, Jesuit was given their first loss this Tuesday as they were defeated 71-67 at the hands of Plano East. The Rangers found themselves down early but crawled their way back after an impressive comeback but still fell short at the end of the game.

After this exciting week, the varsity players see a very positive future ahead for the season. Sophomore Max Abmas has had an impressive start to his varsity career, leading the team in scoring in many of their games. When asked about his thoughts on the season thus far, Max stated, “We have shot well as a team and have moved the ball well so far.” Furthermore, he added that the team needs to be able to rebound back after losses and needs to be able to form consistent runs.

The team has dominated outside of the three point line this season and looks to continue their great play this week with games Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
