Second Presidential Debate 2016

-

It seemed as if they went over everything but the questions from this debate, from old issues such as Hillary’s emails to the new video of Donald Trump.

On Sunday, October 9 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced off again in a town hall meeting style debate, the event moderated by Martha Raddatz (ABC) and Anderson Cooper (CNN). Throughout this debate, questions were asked about the economy, Obama Care, and even their own conduct; but did all of these questions truly get answered?

Many interruptions occurred and often the candidates would go over their time, even Raddatz had to insist “…the audience needs to calm down here,” which really gave me a laugh.

Knowing that educators assign viewing the presidential debates as students’ homework, do you feel you’re modeling appropriate and positive behavior for today’s youth?”

Neither of the candidates truly answered the question, and although Hillary acknowledged it, she continued by saying that she’s “set forth some big goals, getting the economy to work for everyone…having the best education system from preschool through college and making it affordable, and so much more.”

Trump also did not answer the question; rather, he just talked about “what’s happening with some horrible things like Obamacare,” and how “he is going to bring back law and order,” neither of which having any relevance to the question.

This continued throughout most of the debate, with the exception of the Donald Trump tape, about which he answered briefly and then moved on to the topic of ISIS, and with the exception of Hilary answering the questions about her emails by saying she was “extremely careless,” to name a few. Surprisingly though, by the end of the night, both candidates were able to answer one question adequately when asked by Mr. Karl Becker to say something good about the other candidate.

Hillary responded with, “His children are incredibly able and devoted, and I think that says a lot about Donald,” and Trump replied that “[Hillary] doesn’t quit. She doesn’t give up. I respect that. I tell her like it is. She’s a fighter.”

In my opinion, the overall debate was entertaining to watch, and the items brought up that were not questions were good topics.  However, I just wish both Clinton and Trump had answered more questions than they did, and not disrespected the moderators so much in not letting them move on and preventing them from talking. It was great though to see a bit of what they are again… politicians.
