Jesuit and Ursuline Student Councils Join For Collaborative Meeting

-

Coming together under one roof, bouncing ideas off of one another, the elected Student Council officials of both Jesuit and Ursuline met at Jesuit on Tuesday, January 26th, to work together to improve themselves .

By meeting together, the two councils hoped to focus on a few main topics like bringing the schools closer together and encouraging the participation of the student bodies. Student Body President Griffin Scott ’16 said, “We have been talking with Ursuline for a while now, and we wanted to see how they operated their council, so it was nice to have them over and experience it. We worked with them collaboratively which allowed us to bounce ideas off each other and make the best decisions for both schools.”

Making decisions collaboratively is important because the two Student Councils work together on many things throughout the year whether it’s fundraisers, service opportunities, or planning school dances. It can be very hard for the Jesuit and Ursuline Student Council’s to find time to work together, but the joint meetings make it easy to provide that time.

Junior Class Representative Abbas Hussain said, “This meeting is very important especially for us Juniors, who will hopefully be elected again next year, we could set some ground plans and prepare for next year.  The most effective part was when we broke up by grade level and we could really develop some great ideas. We thought of ways to encourage participation between the schools, and we focused on ways to get more Jesuit kids to attend events or games at Ursuline.”

Sophomore Class President Reid Hatzman said, “When the Ursuline girls first came over, I wasn’t sure how the meeting was going to go, but I soon realized it would be just like a normal meeting just more effective. We came up with plans and ideas to improve relations, encourage participation, and work more unified. There won’t be any major changes but I do believe that there should be some improvements very shortly.”

Over the next few years, I would expect some changes whether it’s more events at Ursuline or collaborative service sites, there will be some new opportunities to unite the schools. I would like to thank all of the girls from Ursuline who came over and wish them the best.
