Ranger Baseball Dominating Early

-

The Jesuit Ranger Baseball team has started off their season very strong, looking to continue their success in conference play. The team started the season 8-0-1 in non-conference play, including five wins at home to start off the inaugural season at the newly-built Wright Field.

In their first game at Wright Field, the Rangers faced Red Oak, whom they defeated by a whopping score of 13-0. Mark Ready ’17 recounted, “It felt good to win our first game at home, but even better to get our bats going and score 13 runs.” Jesuit continued their hot hitting to beat Plano West 6-1. Jesuit then faced fellow Dallas rivals Bishop Lynch and JPII, and won 4-1 and 6-2.

Jesuit easily defeated Prosper 7-4 but were unable to find similar success in the following game against Richland, tying 2-2. Kyle Muller ’16 reflected on the value of the tournament, saying, “The Prosper tournament was good. We played some good teams and it showed what we need to work on to make ourselves better as a team to have a successful season.” The rest of the tournament was canceled due to rain, but the Rangers looked towards their spring break games, which included a game against Highland Park at Globe Life Park in Arlington, home of the Texas Rangers.

Behind some great pitching and hitting, the Rangers cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Scots at Globe Life Park. Pete Hamrick ’16 said, “Playing at the Ballpark in Arlington was one of the best experiences I’ve had playing baseball, and it was even better since we beat HP 7-1.” Coming off of this excellent performance, Jesuit went on to face Sachse at Coppell High School, where they continued to tear it up, winning 4-1. Captain Darius Hill ’15 reflected on Jesuit’s focus, saying, “We’re taking it one at a time and making sure we’re playing our game no matter who’s across the field from us. We’re looking to keep playing well and take that into playoffs.”

With an outstanding start to their season, the Rangers look to make this season one to remember and continue their strong performance into district play and further down the road into the playoffs.
