Jesuit is a Force to be Reckoned With in the Upcoming Spring Golf Season

Fore! The Jesuit golf teams ventured in February to the Indian Creek and Canyon Creek Country Club golf courses to compete in tournaments hosted by Creekview High School and Richardson High School respectively, finishing well in both outings.

On February 11, the junior varsity Jesuit golf team headed towards the Creekview golf tournament held at the Indian Creek golf course in Carrollton, Texas. Jesuit held strong rankings at the tournament, with the three junior varsity teams finishing at first, second, and third place. At the head of the first place Blue team, Andrew Buckley ‘18 shot a 76, finishing first in the individual standings. With him, Jackson Houston ’18 and Griffin Till ’18 both shot a 78, tying them for second. Representing the White team, C.J. Moucka ’18 shot an 81, finishing 4th overall in the individual standings. Luke Harrison ’18, shot an 82, putting him in 5th. Representing Jesuit as well were Jake O’Gara ‘18, Grant Frye ‘16, Michael Bradley ‘18, Max McLeod ‘17, Cameron Johnson ‘16, Anthony Valdes ‘18, and Brendan Nelligan ’18.

The following week, the Jesuit varsity golf team competed at Canyon Creek Country Club in Richardson. Jesuit shot a total of 318, claiming the team title. Joe Velasquez ’15 and Chase Fetrow ‘16, led the Rangers, both shooting a 76, which tied them for second place in the individual rankings. David Seagram ’17 also finished well, placing 6th overall with a score of 79. When asked how she thought the team did, Cathy Marino, the Jesuit golf coach, answered, “The team did a great job, especially battling cold conditions all day!”

The Jesuit varsity golf team also teed it up at  the Four Seasons Invitational earlier February,  held at the TPC Las Colinas golf course, site of the PGA’s Byron Nelson Golf Tournament in May.  Jesuit shot a 346 total, placing the team in 15th place overall. In the individual rankings, Martin Breedijk ’17 and Ross Frick ‘16 led the Jesuit golf team, placing 44th and 56th respectively.

Overall, the Jesuit varsity and junior varsity teams have developed strong reputations for themselves for the upcoming spring golf season. The Jesuit community wishes them the best of luck at their upcoming tournaments.
