Expository Bowl

-

This Friday, January 16th, the first annual Expository Bowl will take place at Postell Stadium. The Expository Bowl is a flag football game between the Varsity football team and the Roundup benefiting the charity Heart Gift.

In Director of Community Service Mr. Rich Perry’s words, Heart Gift is an organization that “seeks to bring a child from a developing country to the United States for a life-saving heart surgeries.” Dallas happens to be one of the cities where the organization operates, but, unfortunately, it is one of the few in America.

As it is Heart Gift’s first year operating in Dallas, the organization is in desperate need of donations and will greatly benefit from every dollar raised. Jesuit is looking to raise about $500 from the game to supplement to their overall goal of $10,000 to give to Heart Gift.

In the Expository Bowl, head football coach Brandon Hickman will coach the Roundup staff and Roundup moderator Dr. Michael Degen will coach the varsity football team. To shift the odds even more in favor of the writers, The Roundup will have 11 people on the field vs. the football team’s 7 players.

According to the Roundup’s left tackle Ryan Brooks ’16, “the Expository Bowl is really a great opportunity to help out this charity while also having fun.” Brooks added that he hopes the football team is “ready to see some smashmouth football.”

Bo Schneider ’15, UCF Commit and quarterback for the football team, agreed with Brooks, stating “this is a great tradition to start having at Jesuit.” Schneider added that he likes the football team’s chances of winning.

Chase Ryan ’16, the left guard for the Roundup, stated, “I’m really excited to play in this game because of the great coaching we have.” Ryan also added, “I hope this will be a tradition in the future.”

Mr. Perry has been keeping a poll for the game, and according to him, “49 percent of the teachers voted for the football team and the Roundup has 51 percent.”

The tickets for the game are only $2 and the game will last no longer than an hour. Come out to Postell Stadium at 4 p.m. to see who will win this matchup.
