One of the many milestones for every Jesuit senior, taking place after Senior Prom, Senior Convocation, Special Games, and just before graduation, is the Senior Mass and Breakfast. This year’s Senior Mass and Breakfast was celebrated on Mother’s Day, May 11th, with Mass in the Terry Center and breakfast in the Westin Galleria.
This Mass and breakfast is a sign of closure for the seniors, explaining that this is the seniors’ last stop before graduation. The event also acts as a reflective service, emulating the examen at times and calls to the seniors’ minds their best, most memorable moments at Jesuit.
One senior, Matthew Bedard reflected on the mass and brunch, saying how “The breakfast does a really good job on reflecting on what it means to be at Jesuit. We have a unique opportunity to attend one of the best schools and part of one
of the strongest communities in the country, and the Senior Brunch puts that into perspective.”
David Oglesby, one of the senior guidance/college counselors, believes that “The purpose of the Senior Mass and Breakfast is to honor the Senior Class.” Helping in this reflective process, two speakers were selected to talk on behalf of the class of 2014.
The first was voted on by the senior class, Mr. Max Von Schlehenried one of Jesuit’s physics teachers and a very talented musician, and the second speaker was Mason Amelotte, Senior Class Vice President and recipient of the Jesuit Secondary Association Award. Both exemplify the characteristics of the Jesuit student at graduation: Open to Growth, Physically Fit, Intellectually Competent, Loving, and Committed to 
Working for Social Justice.
These two men are accurate representatives of the Class of 2014.
In the end, Matthew Bedard congratulated his peers on their success at Jesuit and left his final words of advice to the underclassmen, “Make the most of your time at Jesuit, it may sound cliche, but ultimately we only get four years here…it’s really important for you…to maximize your potential in whatever activities you participate [and] when you walk across the stage at graduation, you don’t want to feel like you missed out on any piece of the Jesuit experience.” Congratulations to the Class of 2014!
