Record Splash at State

-

This February 22, Jesuit’s swim team competed in the 2014 5A Texas State Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin Texas.

The team’s 8th place overall finish is the highest finish since joining the UIL in 2004.

Sophomore Brendan Feehery was a leading factor in Jesuits record breaking finish by scoring in two individual events and participating in two relays. His strongest performance came in the 100-yard backstroke finishing 3rd overall with a time of 51.19. He also placed 5th overall in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1.51.36. The 200 free relay didn’t perform as well, although Junior Nolan Daniels, Feehery, sophomore Aedan Quinn and senior Mead Robuck powered to a time of 1:27.26 and helped solidify the team’s top 10 ranking. Closing with 73 points.

Senior Erik Furton says that he feels “that this year, we really maximized our potential. During the middle of the season there was some discord and potential for failure, but we got everything together and became a team when it mattered. Sure, we might not have won regions, but that was out of our control. We did what we could.”

Coach Bj Antes says he feels “The guys did a great job throughout the season. Everything the guys train for is in an effort to maximize the result at those events.” He feels that this years accomplishment will push future teams to “raise the bar again.”

Coaches words put the overall performance in a nutshell “they did a great job throughout the season” and “the results at regionals and state were particularly satisfying.”
