Jesuit Lacrosse Off to A Positive Start

-

lacrosse southlake3Looking for two district wins, Jesuit lacrosse faced off in two competitive games against Southlake and Jesuit Strake in  February in Postell stadium a week and a half ago. Even the two tough district opponents simply could not handle the Jesuit Rangers’ fierce competitiveness. The Rangers won both hard-fought games, earning a 2-0 start of District play.

Southlake Carroll proved to be a tough force against the Rangers, but Jesuit’s hard work and perseverance putlacrossesouthlake 2 them on top with a score of 7-4. Through the first half and part of the second half there was no way of telling who would take home the win. Player Zach Kissick ’16  said, ” There could be improvements in the way that we start off the game.” Southlake’s match up zone on defense played out well for them in the first half, but the Rangers figured out the key to beating this defense: ball movement. Jesuit Varsity Head Coach Chris Surran said, “We made some adjustments at halftime,” which gave the Rangers the advantage on the offensive end of the field against Southlake’s hardnose defense. Adjustments made, the Rangers inched ahead of Southlake in the fourth quarter to earn the win. Overall, Kissick thought “we played pretty well.”

lacrossesouthlake4The rivalry between the two Jesuit schools continued  when the two teams went head-to-head here in Dallas. Jesuit won the big district game here against Strake, whooping Strake with a final score of 16-3. Jesuit started off crisp against Strake and executed well throughout the game. Coach Surran said in the second quarter, “They went up by one and then we scored ten unanswered goals and that was pretty much the game.”

Looking forward, Coach Surran says, “We’ll see where we stand I think we’ve got a lot of talent, but we still need to clean up some execution,” and also adds, “In the end I think the team will be right there,” implying the Rangers are prepared for what comes at them next.
