Jesuit Hosts Lacrosse Round Robin

-

Despite the ice storm that plagued North Texas for a few days, the Rangers still hosted the Jesuit Lacrosse Invitational Tournament on both Saturday and Sunday, February 8 and 9, 2014. Fourteen teams, both Varsity and JV, from in and around North Texas, as well as Jesuit New Orleans, came to Jesuit Dallas to participate in the tournament.

Jesuit Varsity scrimmaged and won all three of its games: 10-5 vs. New Orleans Jesuit, 14-4 against Bowie, and 16-3 vs. Westwood.  In addition, Jesuit JV won 3 out of its 4 games, beating Westwood 11-1, Flowermound , and Plano, but losing to Southlake 9-10. However, in a round robin, there is no clear-cut winner, “All the games are scrimmage,” noted Jesuit Lacrosse Coach, Chris Surran. Regardless, both Varsity and JV played exceptionally well in their matches.

JV defense player Jack Durham ’16 noted that “JV played really well the first day and on Sunday we were a little bit rusty, but ended up doing well,” which is evident in their overall results. Durham adds, that in order to improve their strategy, the JV team can communicate more efficiently.

Coach Surran remarks that “both teams have a lot to clean up from an execution stand point on both ends of the field,” in both defense and offense. “The teams just need some practice time.” The crazy, yet somewhat typical, Texas weather has impacted both teams’ practice schedules.

The next few games will be held at home at Postell Stadium. The team will travel in March to Durham, North Carolina, for a three day tournament at Duke University. There are still many games left in the season for all you Jesuit lacrosse fans to go out and support your Jesuit Rangers. Let’s go Rangers!!!
