New Strings Attached–A New Venture from Alex Magee

-

It’s coming! The moment we all have been waiting for. The one organization that will rock this world (with classical music)!

Every so often, a new institution is born out of nothing but a mind with a clear-cut goal and grabs the attention of mankind. This unique brotherhood and solid fellowship is born out of the great, insightful mind of Alexander Magee’15.

Expressing true leadership and confidence, Magee, would-be future philanthropist, recently decided that it was time to share his knowledge and expression of musical talent with the world. In December, this new organization named the New Strings Attached Organization launches operations until the end of January.

As the moderator and creator of New Strings Attached, Magee plans for the organization to teach under-served youth by providing them musical guidance and education. He also plans to raise funds to purchase instruments for the schools the students attend. There will be a benefit concert on December 15 that will include the performances of both Jesuit’s orchestra and Ursuline’s orchestra to raise these funds necessary to purchase the instruments for the young future musicians. Alex believes that there is no “better way to [procure money] than to play some exceptional and classical music to a [generous] audience.”

Magee said he decided to start  this organization not because he desired a leadership position, but because he had a long time desire since his eighth grade school year at St. Alcuin to create an organization in which he could use his musical talents “to serve and [to] support the under-served youth,” which is the motto of New Strings Attached. In the past, he worked a summer job at the East Dallas Community School; he worked almost every week helping maintain the school’s fundraising program. He saw the impact of raising money for the youth and the unique display of smiling faces and laughs of  joy.

Magee was inspired from this experience to reach out to the youth and provide them musical education, to add joy to their lives. He now prepares for the launch of New Strings Attached, which he says will hopefully “help start a necessary education movement in manifesting musical knowledge throughout Dallas and eventually Texas.”

Currently, his short term plans for the year include purchasing at least five violins for EDCS (East Dallas Community School) and adding one violin teacher volunteer to the already existing musical program at this school. In the long run, he hopes to “help all the [youth] in the area through musical education,” and eventually help the whole state of Texas, but he wants to take it one step at time. With a lot of ambition, Magee’s only true desire is to help the youth live more profitable lives and achieve the musical education that “[they] deserve and are entitled too.”

For the whole Jesuit community, Magee said he wants to exemplify  its motto “Men for Others”  to the world. To serve as Men for Others, he wants the extended JCP community to attend these benefit concerts that will provide musical instruments and education to the less-fortunate youth. He says that the “community can serve as men for others by showing support for New Strings Attached.”
