After an anti-climactic loss to Mesquite in the finals of the Knights of Columbus tournaments, the Rangers bounced back with a monumental 71-59 trouncing of the Plano West Wolves. The Wolf Pack, usually a powerhouse in the world of North Texas high school basketball, were outdone by the Rangers from the very beginning, being outscored in the first half 32-23.
Senior center David Lacey continued to show his dominance for the Rangers with a 20 point night, but the real hero for the home team was Junior Steven Speith, who led all scorers with a whopping 21 points. Speith’s performance marked the first time that David Lacey did not score the most points for the Jesuit Rangers in a game all season.
Despite giving up 18 points and 14 points to Brandon Allums and Jackson Forbes respectively, Dallas Jesuit stayed very firm on defense for the most part, allowing no other Plano West players to score anymore than 7 points.
This big win comes in the wake of the basketball team’s upcoming trip to Buffalo, NY. They are traveling up north to the Mecca of high school basketball, New York State, to play the annual Cannesius Jesuit Tournament.
The enthusiasm about the trip is very high, with manager Jeff Ackels declaring that “the Jesuit Rangers are bringing their talents to Buffalo.” Head Coach Chris Hill similarly shared his excitement with The Roundup: “It’s gonna be great… It’s going to be fun to see the other teams and how good they all are.”
Coach Hill went on to express how excited he was about “visiting Niagara Falls” and “bonding with the team.” The excitement and energy about the trip was manifested in Jeff Ackel’s wise words: “Basketball is a sport that defines true manhood and gives an individual man his ability to show others who a true man is and what it is to be a man.”
On this trip, the Jesuit Rangers hope not only to bond as a team, but also to show some of the northern high school basketball powerhouses just how good Dallas Jesuit really is.
