241 Schools Showcased at Annual College Night

-

241 colleges from around the United States and other countries converged on the Jesuit campus on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, for the annual College Night. The largest single gathering of colleges in Dallas, Jesuit’s College Night gave students an unmatchable college browsing experience. From the University of Dallas to the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, a myriad of schools showcased their unique features to juniors and seniors throughout the Terry Center, Hughes Hall, both gyms, and many other areas of the school.

Supervisor David Oglesby, senior guidance counselor and organizer of College Night since 1981, believes that College Night, “is a great way for juniors and their families to explore colleges.” He also asserted that seniors who attend College Night, “already have working connections with the colleges they are interested in, and this is a way for them to finalize contact with a certain college.” In order to create the best and most effective experience for students, College Night was planned to welcome other Catholic schools into the college browsing event.

Not only did juniors and seniors from Jesuit attend this event, but also students from Bishop Lynch, Ursuline, John Paul II, the Highlands School, and Cistercian. Will Cormier ’13 enjoyed College Night because, “everyone was very friendly and energetic, and they had a lot of school spirit.” Another student, Reed Rubey ’13, stated that College Night, “showed me some schools that I hadn’t considered before.” Having introduced students to new schools and given students more knowledge about schools, this year’s College Night was a great way for students to either begin their decision-making process or confirm their choices about college.
