Jesuit Football Starts the Season with a Loss to Flower Mound

-

Paul Millard threw for 439 yards and five touchdowns and Hunter Lee caught nine passes for 216 yards for Flower Mound as they beat Jesuit 69–31 Friday night. Millard completed over 74 percent of his passes as the Flower Mound offense racked up 642 yards on the Jesuit defense.

Jesuit highlights came from the offense. Mike Savage, who threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 127 yards and a touchdown, and Brian Wetzel, who caught an area-high fifteen passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, both were effective against the unheralded Flower Mound secondary. Senior Greg Ackels was confident that “if we just get to the red zone more often we will always be able to put up points.” On this night, however, Jesuit could not build on their offensive strategy because they were playing catch up throughout the night. Flower Mound poured on the points at will against a seemingly flat Jesuit defense.

Coach Bob Wunderlick is confident the defensive woes will be fixed by next week, as are the players. Senior Harry Corbin says, “We got caught in the wrong position sometimes and they took advantage. I’m not worried though; we’ll have these problems answered in a couple of practices.” Jesuit will look to improve their record to 1-1 in their next game against Strake Jesuit in Houston this upcoming Friday.
