Rainwater sloshes around on the field of Bobcat Stadium in Celina, Texas. The sky dumps bucket upon bucket of water on the players below; nevertheless, the Jesuit Rangers persevere. A few weeks ago, the freshman football teams won two more games apiece away against opponents WT White, Celina, and MacArthur.
Blue Team
Despite going up early in the game, WT White eventually fell to the Blue team, 14-8, on October 21st. “After falling behind 8 to 0 in the second, [Blue] scored right before the half on a 20 yard trick play,” Coach Bob Wunderlick said. QB Jack Hadju completed a pass to WR Sam Koeijmans, who in turn threw the ball to fellow receiver Nick Parigi for a touchdown. “We played good as a whole,” said Koeijmans. Important on defense were Mac McHugh, Joseph Schutz, Collin Kenny, Zach Laird, and Colin Senick, Senick with an interception during the game. “[We] went ahead on a short 3 yard TD run by Joseph Barraco,” Coach Wunderlick added. Other notable players of the week were RB Peter Buell, OL Josh Lewis, OT Jake Rhoades, OT Alex Duran, and OG Austin Montpas.
Similarly, the next week, MacArthur could not compete with the Blue team, who came out victorious, winning 24-6 and securing a district title. Even on their first possession, the offense scored, RB Peter Buell punching into the end zone. Coach Wunderlick said about the next two, “After a defensive fumble recovery, Jesuit scored on a pass from Jack Hadju to Jacob Jowdy, and Sam Koeijmans added the extra point.” He continued, “[Right] before the half, the Jesuit offense quickly marched down the field and scored on a 18 yard TD pass from Brody Hilberth to Brennan Louviere.” Earlier in the game, linebacker Mac McHugh recovered a fumble. This led to a 42 yard field goal from player of the week James Koshakji, “who had a great night,” according to his coach. On defense, players of the week were Sam Starr, Alex Chu, Zach Laird, Colin Kenny, and Bolton Beck and, offensively, Wyatt Ciccarelli, Cole Harrington, Jacob Jowdy, Brennan Louviere, Josh Lewis, Brody Hilberth, and Jack Hadju.
Gold Team
In muddy Celina, while Blue battled WT White, the Gold team defeated the opposing Bobcats 27-0. “NT Connor Curreri, DE Wyatt Hummel, LB Noah Villasana, LB Will Lietnick, CB Connor Wilson, and CB Pierce Strong, held the Bobcats to no first downs in the first half and created a safety early in the first quarter,” Coach Wunderlick said. DL William Norris agreed that “the defense was dominating the
entire game.” Additionally, QB Matthew Priddy had a fantastic showing, running for 3 touchdowns and connecting with Anthony Hollerich for another. Other players of the game were Will Piot, JC Erickson, Max Telfer, Harrison Camp, and David Reichert. Coach Whndrlick added, “It was a convincing win for the Road Warriors, and it improved their record to 6 and 2 on the season.”
At MacArthur, the Gold team won again. As William Norris said, “the energy…was sky high.” He would block a punt later in the game and create a safety. “[We] won 23 to 0 over an athletic and previously undefeated MacArthur team,” said Coach Wunderlick, “It was a great performance by all against a quality opponent.” Defense halted MacArthur after they initially recovered an onside kick. Then, the game tied, Matthew Priddy and Pierce Strong scored in the second quarter on a run and 75-yard punt return, respectively. Another touchdown from WR Canon Brewer and shutdown defense locked in the win. William Norris, Caden Carlson, Connor Curreri, Strong, Noah Villasana, Ben Shepherd, Connor Wilson, and Will Lietnick were defensive players of the week. Max Telfer, Harrison Camp, JC Erickson, Will Piot, Matthew Priddy, and Anthony Hollerich led the way for offense, while Bernardo Gonzalez and Pierce Strong were outstanding on special teams.
