Jesuit Began Season with Statement Victory Over Cy United

The Jesuit Dallas lacrosse team began its 2025 campaign in fashion, defeating Cy United 14-6 on Saturday afternoon at Ranger Stadium. The Rangers took control of the second half, registering seven turnovers and limiting Cy United to only 15 shots as they scored 7-2 on them to seal the win.

Junior Cayden Bartusek led the way with an excellent eight-point performance, six goals and two assists. Junior Marshall Sorokwasz added a goal and two assists, and he and Bartusek were tied for the team lead in assists. Senior Declan McGarity and junior David Atwell each had two goals, and Andrew Ditchman, Jack Lynch, and Jack Steinbach also scored. Assists came from Atwell, Ditchman, J.C. Fife, and Grayson Gilbert.

During the face-off “X,” junior Thompson Haddock controlled, grabbing 16 of 24 attempts and recording a team-best seven ground balls. McGarity added five ground balls, and Steinbach had three. Gilbert, Bartusek, Ditchman, and junior Shepard Platt each registered one caused turnover in the defensive category. Junior Gabriel James anchored the goal cage with a solid debut effort with 11 saves.

Jesuit Stumbles Against Westlake After Strong First Half

Following their season-opening win, Jesuit traveled to Austin to meet Westlake on Feb. 8. The Rangers had a halftime lead, but struggled in the third quarter as Westlake embarked on a 5-0 spurt that ultimately resulted in a 15-9 Chaparral Stadium loss.

Bartusek, Ditchman, and Gilbert each scored two goals, with Atwell, Lynch, and senior Caleb Caldwell also chipping in. Assists were registered by Ditchman, Gilbert, and McGarity.

Caldwell dominated the face-off circle, winning 14 of 24 draws and picking up a team-high nine ground balls. Atwell and senior Anthony Pierce led the defense, each causing two turnovers, with Steinbach adding four ground balls. James made 12 saves in his second start of the season.

Jesuit Falls to The Woodlands as Second-Half Lead Slips Away

Back home at Ranger Stadium on Feb. 15, the Rangers were looking to bounce back versus The Woodlands. Jesuit was up 3-1 at halftime but a strong second half by the Highlanders flipped the script around, as The Woodlands rolled in the second half 7-3 and won 8-6. Sorokwasz and Bartusek led the attack with two goals apiece, and Lynch and McGarity added a goal apiece. Lynch, Sorokwasz, Ditchman, and Gilbert all had an assist. Caldwell maintained his strong face-off work, winning 14 of 18 draws and recording a team-high six ground balls. On defense, junior John Gregory and senior Aidan Raymond both caused two turnovers, and James made four saves in goal.

Senior Anthony Pierce has this to say about the season

“We haven’t started the season the way we have expected, losing some very competitive games to really good teams. But I wouldn’t count us out just yet, we have a very talented roster with great coaching and leadership that will continue to grow and get better every game of the season.”

Jesuit falls short against Culver: Losing 6-14

The Rangers battled a talented offense with a multitude of D1 talent. Junior Andrew Dutchman led the Rangers with 3 goals, securing his first hat trick of the season. Cayden Bartusek(jr), followed that up with 2 goals, and juniors Grayson Gilbert and Marshall Sorokwasz both had a goal each.

In the net, The Ohio State Commit, Gabriel James racked up 8 saves in the first half, before being switched with Declan Kissock also recorded 8 saves in the second half. In the ring, Caleb Caldwell(sr.) secured 8 face-off wins and grabbed 4 ground balls, a team-high.

Jesuit will return to Ranger Stadium on Sunday, February 23 to meet St. Mark’s in a key non-district matchup. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Rangers snapped the three-game losing streak with an impressive win, dismantling St.Marks(12-3).

Cayden Bartusek(jr.) and Andrew Ditchman(jr.) both secured 3 goals apiece with both Grayson Gilbert(So) and Marshal Sorokwasz(jr.) each scoring two goals. Caleb Caldwell(sr.) amounted to 13 face-off wins while also racking up a team-high of 11 ground balls.

Jesuit will head to Los Angeles for the team’s annual spring break trip, opening the two-game schedule against Brophy (Ariz.) on Saturday, March 8 at 4 p.m. CST (2 p.m. PST). The Rangers will conclude the spring break trip with a 5 p.m. CT (3 p.m. PT) showdown against Loyola (Calif.).

The Rangers started the weekend off with a dominant win over Brophy(AZ). Continuing the offensive aggression, on Mondy the Rangers secured a dominant win over Loyola(CA) in a 13-8 victory.
