In my last Cowboy article, I stated that the Cowboys will yet again be a disappointment in the playoffs, with them barely making the playoffs only to get booted in the wildcard round. But reflecting on the Cowboys season, my predictions may potentially be wrong if the Cowboys are able to capitalize in there situation. While I will still hold to my prediction that they will not make it to the NFC Championship, I will acknowledge that with the Cowboys’ current position, might be their best chance to make a run for the championship since 1995.

Currently, the Cowboys are the 2nd seed, the highest seed they’ve been since the 2016 playoffs in which they were the 1st seed. With them being a 2nd seed, they will have the home field advantage which, ever since the week 1 game vs the Bucs in the 2022-2023 season, they have not lost on their home turf. And if you want to know how much wins that is, it’s 16 which is the 12th longest streak all time. Their current opponent in the wildcard game is the 9-8 Green Bay Packers. And if they win, their divisional round opponent will be either the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams, or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s important to note that the Cowboys have already beaten the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams. Also, the Bucs could be a stronger team and got here due to their weak division.

Cowboys are Legit

So, the Cowboys’ path to the Superbowl is now easier than ever. Unlike the past (especially these last two years), where the Cowboys were a strong team but never a real contender for the Superbowl, this year, the Cowboys are one of the strongest teams in the NFC. The competition also appears to be much weaker this season than the past season in the NFC, and apart from the 49ers, all the other teams seem manageable for the Cowboys to beat.

Apart from all the competition in the NFC, there is also the team itself. The Cowboys have seem to finally built their Super Bowl-contending team and put it all together. The Cowboys currently have the 1st best offense and the 5th best defense in the NFL, not to mention a formidable special teams squad. And we can’t talk about the team without mentioning their quarterback, Dak Prescott. Coming off a pretty mediocre season, Dak has found his mojo this season and has been having an MVP cabler season. With 4,516 passing yards (3rd most in the NFL), a league-leading 36 touchdowns, and a 72.6 QBR, Dak is in his prime of his career and is ready to win the Superbowl.

And theirs also the Cowboy’s best receiver, CeeDee Lamb, who has had a record-breaking season of 1,749 yards, 2nd most in the NFL and most in Cowboys history. There is also Micah Pearson on the defense, who has 14 sacks and has been the best player on the defense, although teams have been able to limit him throughout the season. Lastly, their breakout player, DaRon Bland, who leads the NFL in interceptions with 9.

With all these factors and the roster they built, this is their best chance to win the Superbowl since the ’90s. They have it all figured out; this is the Cowboys year, but yet again, we must remember these are the Cowboys.

The Same Old Cowboys

While the Cowboys seemingly have a lot of things going for them, they are still the Cowboys, and the team they are playing seems to be a thorn in their side when it comes to the playoffs. Green Bay Packers has foiled many Cowboy playoff runs, and in fact, that 2016 season was ended by the Green Bay Packers. There is also the fact that they will play the 49ers sometime in the playoffs (if they make it far enough). The 49ers have beaten the Cowboys in the playoffs for the past two years, and this season, the 49ers beat down the Cowboys 42-10 and have been dominant all year.

The Cowboy history does not help their case to make a run, either. The Cowboys are chokers. That is a fact. For the past 25ish years, the Cowboys have put together great teams, even Super Bowl-contending teams, yet consistently fail on execution and fumble the bag somehow. They seem to implode in the spotlight, and the only question is will they do it again?

Conclusion

The Cowboys have walked this path many times and have consistently failed to make anything out of it. And if you are a skeptic within the fanbase, this year will be no different, but if you are a go-hoe believer, then this is their year. Y0u might be thinking what is my opinion on this years Cowboys? In my opinion there is something different about these Cowboys. This team feels different and ready to take on the challenges, and have it all there to go win a Superbowl. But I’m a skeptic and I believe although they have it all together they will probably find a way to choke somehow.

But like the old saying goes:

“3rd time is the charm.”

So maybe this might be the Boys year.
