With the baseball season now in full swing, the 2012 Spring Break was packed with competition.  While the majority of the Jesuit community went away for the break, the baseball team remained in town as they had some must win games.

Just as students were leaving Jesuit after school for spring break on Friday, the team had a matchup with a strong Wylie team. After putting themselves up one run in the 3rd inning, the Rangers brought in two more runs in the 5th inning to widen the lead. With the combination of outstanding defense and a huge hit by Hank Tobolka ’12, the Rangers were able to secure the win. The final score was Jesuit 3, Wylie 0.

Tuesday night the Ranger team faced off against Berkner in a district showdown. Shea Stine ’13 had a huge

Chris Cisneros

game against the Rams getting on base repeatedly and scoring multiple times.  Once the team jumped out ahead in the third inning, they never looked back. After scoring just one run in the first four innings, the team banged in six runs in the last three. “It’s great to see that after all the practices and after all our hard work we are able to capitalize on our chances,” said Phil Young ’13. “Winning games like these gives us the motivation to continue working hard.”

Although some individuals may think playing baseball over spring break is a burden, the players view it

differently. Max Ready ’14 spoke about the importance of Spring Break baseball, saying, “The games and practices we had over spring break really help[ed] out with the bonding of the team.  While most guys are away on trips we get to play together and enjoy the sport without having to worry about grades or homework.  Our spring break was actually pretty fun when we got the results we wanted.”

Come see the Jesuit team this week as they try and improve on their 11-6-1 overall record, and 4-0-0 district record against the formidable Lake Highlands and Samuell teams.
