The Jesuit Ranger cross country team was back in action this past week, as they traveled to Keller to run in the Fossil Ridge Run of the Panther. Since the last update, the Rangers have participated in this meet, as well as the (next week’s meet). The team kept up their strong start to the season, with more top-five finishes from both varsity and JV.
Fossil Ridge Run of the Panther
On September 1st, the Rangers competed in the Fossil Ridge invitational in Keller, Texas. This was a very competitive meet with top teams attending. The Rangers showed out, with senior captain Henry Beckman taking home the gold with a sensational time of 16:18.78, winning the race by almost twenty seconds. Fellow captain Francisco Almaguer ’24 also finished in the top ten, coming in with a personal best 16:54.14.
Sophomore Ethan Irrobali clocked a 17:56.81 to place 38th. Seniors Jackson Schutze (18:01.85) and Drew Lamberson (18:02.90) finished in 41st and 42nd, respectively, sophomore Jaxon Tanner secured 45th place with an 18:06.27, and freshman Henry King wrapped the team’s scoring with an 18:13.29 to place 53rd.
This was an important result for the team, as they saw how they stacked up with other top teams ahead of the district showdown in October. Coach Doug Robinson was very pleased with the performance of the team saying:
This was a tremendous opportunity to run on the district course. I’m proud of all the teams, when we got knocked down we got right back up and we’re looking forward to the district meet. – Coach Robinson
McKinney Boyd Bronco Stampede
On September 9th, the Rangers headed north to compete in the most competitive meet on the schedule, the McKinney Boyd Bronco Stampede. This meet featured not only top teams from all across the DFW area, but also teams from all across Texas.
Senior captain Henry Beckman led the way once again, finishing seventh with a time of 15:53.90. Charlie Thornton ’24, making his return from injury ran a time of 16:55.10 and finished 2nd among Jesuit runners and 42nd overall. Fellow seniors Francisco Almaguer (17:36.30) and Drew Lamberson (17:44.90) finished 66th and 73rd respectively. Not far behind them were sophomore Ethan Irrobali and Freshman Henry King who finished 84th and 85th with times just over 18 minutes.
Senior Drew Lamberson, who ran on the varsity team in both meets, was very excited about the team going forward. He was also very positive about the season so far saying:
I think the team has done great, we’ve had some difficult circumstances and have overcome a lot injuries but we’ve stayed the course and performed well.

This sentiment was echoed by other members of both varsity and JV, everyone is extremely happy with the results both individual and team. Additionally, the team has had to battle through many challenges but has come out stronger and will look to show out this weekend and in the approaching district meet.
The Rangers will be back on the trail this Saturday, 9/30 at the Jesuit Cross Country Classic at Prestonwood Polo Club. This is the Rangers’ home meet and will feature teams from all across the state.
