When looking at all presidential candidates for 2016, no one stands out quite like Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. America needs a president that is not an apologist, and Walker’s ability to stay principled is perfect for that role.
First and foremost, Walker can appeal to the common man. He does not come from an elite family and he has earned everything he has. He attended Marquette University but did not graduate, and withdrew his senior year. While this may raise concern for some, Walker voluntarily left early his senior year because he was offered a good job from American Red Cross. There, he worked hard for four years all while raising a family.
After working for Red Cross, Walker got into politics, as he was elected into the Wisconsin State Assembly at age 26. He was re-elected several times and eventually worked his way up to become Wisconsin’s governor. Walker was not hyped up when he started out and did not receive much attention at all, he simply built up a conservative platform himself and developed the principles he holds strong today.
Walker’s success as governor started in 2010, winning in Wisconsin, a historically liberal state. As governor, Walker went to work right away, eventually eliminating Wisconsin’s $3.6 billion budget, all while not raising taxes for the general population. On top of that, the unemployment rate was at 8% in Wisconsin when Walker was elected; in the past few months, however, it was reported that the rate in Wisconsin has dropped to 4%.
Governor Walker was able to eliminate the budget by passing the Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill in 2011. The bill eliminated nearly all collective bargaining rights, and required union employees to pay more into their pensions as well as their healthcare, which infuriated all union workers and led to large amounts of protesting. Despite nationwide protest, the legislation passed and was put into effect. This angered so many people in Wisconsin to the point that a recall election was held. In the 2012 recall election, Walker made history, becoming the first governor to win a recall election. As a result of this bill, Walker was able to effectively balance Wisconsin’s budget, all the while sticking to his principles and not compromising.
Walker has continuously been a big time capitalist, working to limit the government’s influence, a quality that is extremely necessary for someone to run a country that is over $16 trillion in debt. As governor of Wisconsin, Walker has worked to put the power into the hands of the corporations and small businesses, which he claimed would result in job growth. By allowing corporations and small businesses freedom and power, the unemployment rate was effectively cut in half, a change that is necessary on the national level.
To help balance the budget, Walker has effectively defunded many unnecessary and controversial organizations, such as Planned Parenthood. In the past couple months, videos have come out that show Planned Parenthood workers discussing selling the body parts of dead babies. Although the mainstream media did not report much on it, it shocked many Americans. Still some liberals such as Hillary Clinton continue to support Planned Parenthood. It turns out that Governor Walker defunded Planned Parenthood months before this happened, proving that he is not afraid to strike down corrupt organizations.
His track record on education as Wisconsin governor, is impressive as well, working to improve the quality of teachers. In 2013, Walker worked hard to eliminate the influence that unions have on the education system. That included hiring teachers based on merit rather than seniority, bucking a trend that has corrupted many school districts in recent years. This idea has paid off as well for Walker, as the graduation rate and test scores have strongly improved in the last 4 years under Walker.
When it comes to other domestic issues, Walker has taken a solid stance on all, especially on gun control. Despite public outcry to ban all guns, Walker has kept a very practical approach and has continued to support the Constitution. Walker fought to keep concealed carry permits and strongly believes that the Second Amendment is not optional.
Along with gun control, Walker has kept a practical stance on healthcare, arguing that there is no need for government-run healthcare. In 2010, Walker stated that the private sector will fix healthcare rather than government mandates, and ObamaCare has proved that Walker is  correct. Governor Walker refused to accept additional Medicaid money from ObamaCare, which has cut down the large waiting list for the poor.
On the international front, Walker has strong foreign policy ideas and urges that we need a change in foreign policy from the one we have now. Walker has been adamant in his opposition to the Iran Nuclear Deal. He believes, as many Americans do, that cutting sanctions on Iran will only benefit them and that we cannot negotiate with the corrupt. Governor Walker also urges that we need strong alliances in the Middle East in order to remain in control.
All across the board, Scott Walker embodies all the qualities to be President and his track record speaks for itself. Furthermore, Walker has found much success in linking fiscal responsibility and establishing an environment for creating jobs as a social justice issue. Â America needs a strong leader and Scott Walker is just the man to get America back to being the most prosperous country in the world.
