The Rangers have started the first month and half the season very well going 4-2. They have beaten four teams in dominant fashion: Plano West, Lake Travis, Christian Brothers (Tenn.) and Trinity H.S. (KY.)
Plano West
A lacrosse season can not start off better than a dominant win in the opener. And the Rangers did exactly that as they beat the Plano West Wolves 19-0 on opening day. Henry Suarez started the season with an unassisted goal in the first seven seconds. The first of six goals in the first quarter. Two by Legg, two by Martin, and one unassisted from Sam Teachout. The Rangers scored six in the second quarter, making it 11-0 at the half. Curran Rose scored three in the quarter, Legg got his third of the day, Teachout scored his second of the day, and Johnston scored his first of two goals.
In the second half, the Rangers scored seven goals to make the final 19-0. In the third quarter Caiden Vlasimsky scored two goals, Cameron Martin completed his hat trick of goals, and Rose got his fourth of the day. The Rangers eased up on the Wolves in the fourth only scoring three goals from Johnston (2), Legg (4), and Martin (4).
The Rangers were dominant against the Wolves having three people with 4 goals each, and a clean sheet from Connor Knight and Rob Williamson. We went 21 of 23 face-offs, thanks to Suarez, Mason Chandler, and Will Reading. The Defense was dominant as there were only 4 shots and none on goal.
Snow-Pocalypse
Right after a good win against a solid Plano West team, the lacrosse team had a four-game hiatus, canceling the games against: IMG Academy, The Woodlands, St. John’s, and St. Mark’s. This was because of the giant winter storm that ravaged Texas and knocked us out of school for a week. This did not stop the Rangers from continuing on their hot streak with another impressive won against highly ranked Lake Travis.
Lake Travis
The Rangers came back from the month hiatus by improving to 2-0 against the at the time 4-0 Lake Travis. It was another double-digit scoring day and another double-digit win as the Rangers beat the Cavaliers 15-5. In the first half, the Rangers took an 8-1 lead. Starting in the first quarter, the Rangers scored four goals to answer the one by Cavs. The Rangers scored another four in the second without any match by the Cavs. Rose scored 5 goals making it 9 on the year in just two games. Martin followed Rose with 3 of his own and now 7 in the two-game campaign.
Jesuit outscored Lake Travis 7-4 in the second half making the blowout 15-5. Legg scored two and so did MacAllister Hobbs, his first two of the season. Teachout added two and Vlasimsky grabbed one as well. In three-quarters of work, Connor Knight allowed just two goals with 4 saves and got the win. Williamson closed out the game with a save of his own. It was another good day on the face-offs winning 17-23 this time by Suarez, Chandler, and Reading.
Highland Park
After starting the season 2-0 and blowing out the first two opponents 34-5, the Rangers suffered their first loss to the rival Scots 11-9. The game started promising as Teachout scored two quick unassisted goals in the first four minutes of the game. As the first quarter came to an end, HP scored their first goal cutting the lead to 1 at the end of the first. At the beginning of the second, goals by Hobbs and Vlasimsky made the game 4-1. The Scots responded with a goal of their own, but then Vlasimsky made it 5-2 with a goal assisted by Rose. Then, the Scots finished the half with 3 straight unanswered goals tying the game at 5 at the half.
The Scots started the second half with two more goals and took the lead, 7-5. Teachout brought the game back to one as he scored his third of the day. To close out the third quarter the Scots extended their lead to three goals, 9-6. Down 3, the Rangers needed some scoring quickly, and Hobbs and Vlasimsky come through with two goals making it 9-8 halfway through the fourth. At the six-minute mark, HP brought their lead back to 2. After a face-off win by Suarez, Rose scored quickly bringing back to 1 with 5 minutes left. But, the Scots matched this goal with three minutes left and kept with the strong defense to end the game 11-9.
Despite strong performances from Vlasimsky and Teachout who both had hat tricks, the Scots’ offense was too much for the Rangers to overcome. Chandler and Suarez struggled in face-offs winning only 8-15, which lead to a lot of shots on goal for Knight who saved 15 shots but let in 11.
Midwest Trip and Games
When you are a great team as consistently as the Rangers are you are invited to play teams from out of the state and compete against the best that the country has to offer. The Rangers played three games with two in Kentucky and one in Memphis, Tennessee.
Christian Brothers
They started the road trip by beating Christian Brothers on their home turf, 15-2. Through the first period, the Rangers led 5-0, with four unassisted goals by Nate Duncan, Mac Hobbs, Henry Suarez, and Jack Emery. The fifth goal was a Cameron Martin goal assisted by Sam Teachout. In the second period, the Purple Wave scored their only two goals ruining Connor Knight’s perfect game. But the Rangers made sure to keep the game out of reach scoring three of their own goals by Hobbs, Martin, and Suarez each of their second goal of the day. We outscored the Purple Wave 7-0 in the second half with two goals from Hobbs, one assisted by Martin, another Martin and Duncan goal, and then Grayson Kissock, Connor Legg, and Charlie Metz got their first.
Culver Academy
The next game was against the number 5 team in the nation, Culver Academy. It was a rough day in terms of the score, losing 12-2. But as Culver is a national powerhouse in lacrosse and we were without Rose, Teachout, and Vlasimsky it was a valiant effort. Hudson Johnston and Martin scored the two goals of the game. Chandler, Suarez, and Reading went 9-19 on face-offs. And, Cooper Coleman and Knight combined in the game in goal.
Trinity High
The Rangers finished off the road trip with a win against Trinity High from Kentucky, 10-2. We started the game up 2-1 with goals from Suarez and Martin. During the middle two quarters, the Rangers went on a 6-0 run with goals from Martin twice, Nate Duncan, John Starr, Suarez, and Charles Moran. Furthermore, in the fourth Suarez got his third goal and Legg scored the last goal making it 10-2. Suarez, Reading, and Chandler went 13-15 on face-offs. Coleman and Knight combined for 7 saves and only allowed 2 goals.
Rest of the Year
The Rangers have five games left with 2 at Postell, Coppell, and Southlake Carroll, 2 away, at HP and Frisco, and a neutral last game before playoffs. With wins in the last 5, the Rangers would bring in a 6 game winning streak into playoffs and will enter as the 2 seed.
