Walking through the information commons, one can see many different art pieces, ranging from pieces by prominent American artists to the students of Jesuit. The pieces on display by our students can be seen thanks to the previous exhibit named “Self Reflection.” After the few short weeks it was displayed, the student exhibit sequel labeled “The Musical Offering” will now be displayed in front of the theater.
Mr. Joe Howard commented on the sequel exhibit, saying, “My hope is that by rotating different projects throughout the year, it will inspire students to consider practicing and learning different artistic skills themselves.”
The exhibition will contain several pieces of student work created this semester as well as a few pieces from the Jesuit Dallas Museum, all of which relate to the theme of music. This exhibition will actually coincide with the new play being released by the Jesuit Stage and Film production of the play, Amadeus. The opening day for this exhibit and the musical production will be on November 14, and the exhibit will be up until November 22.
The art exhibit will include some spectacular pieces from the Jesuit Museum, including works from artist like Gail Nogel and Quincy Conwell. On the student side, the exhibit will feature a collection of pieces from the students enrolled in the Drawing I and Graphic Design courses at Jesuit. Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt-Blanc said that “This will be a great exhibit featuring a few music oriented pieces from the Museum as well as some pieces from the Jesuit students.”
The play Amadeus focuses on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri and their creation of music. This rendition of a piece by Peter Scheffler gives an account of the lives of the composers. The art gallery was designed to complement the musical theme of Amadeus. The play is performed by a combination of Jesuit and Ursuline students and has high expectations after the past success of Jesuit’s Stage and Film department.
On November 14, the Dallas Jesuit Museum and the Fine Arts department will have an opening reception before the first performance of Amadeus. There will be food and drinks available, and it will be an opportunity for the student artists to socialize with their families, teachers and other students. Everyone will be invited to attend the reception and will be encouraged to stick around for Amadeus at 7:00.
Make sure to check out the exhibit and the musical!
