“A mother’s love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible” – Marion C. Garretty.

“I love my mother as trees love water and sunshine. She helps me grow, prosper, and reach great heights.” – Terry Guillemets

Jesuit does a great job of providing memorable events to its families. The Mother/Son Brunch is a great way for Jesuit students to give back to their mothers. The Mother/Son Brunch took place this year on Sunday, February 20th at the Westin Hotel. Here’s a quick recap on the special event for mother’s and their sons:

The Event

At the wonderful event, eggs, bacon, pancakes, and potatoes were served for brunch. One student commented that the food was “pretty good and the conversations at the tables were great.” He said he has been to the event all three years and plans to go next year as well. During the mother/son brunch, two Jesuit students spoke at the event, Ben Rodenbaugh’ 20 and Caleb Harvey ’20, and students took pictures with their mothers and then sat at a table with other families, which was a great way for parents and students to interact and socialize with new people. At the Mother/Son Brunch, there was a special mass led by Father Sydney, and students from the Jesuit Men’s Chorus were there to sing lovely songs at the mass.

One student commented that mass was an important element to have at this wonderful event, considering Jesuit is a Catholic school. After the mass, there was an exchange of flowers and candy, flowers for the moms and candy for the sons. The event allowed students to spend time with their mothers, outside of the hectic school week, and it provided an opportunity for mothers to meet other adults they wouldn’t otherwise meet. The event gave special time to the mothers and sons at Jesuit to spend time with each other, as earlier in the year there was already a Father/Son Casino night.

Student Opinions

“I had a great time with my mom at the event. She does so many things for me that I’m glad we can give back to her and her unconditional love. The conversations were also fun, as I sat with some other athletes, and it was an overall enjoyable experience. The registration goes by fast, so make sure to register once the dates come out. I highly recommend it!” – Jason Davis ’21

“I thought the mother/son brunch was a bonding experience that provided an opportunity for me to step back from school, extracurriculars, etc. and allowed me to spend time with my family during a very busy time for me.  This is my 2nd time doing this, and I thought this one was especially special to me and my mom because it helped me to strengthen a bond with my mom who I normally take for granted in all that she provides for me.” -Gabriel Skariah ’21
