Jesuit’s Track and Field team has had a stellar run over the past few months. The team has shown some promise with some stellar performances and hopes to make a strong push into the postseason.
Allen
Jesuit did not place at Allen, but some notable athletes finished with some solid results. Junior Ford Butler finished fourth in the 100-meter run. Bradford Butler and Senior Kyle Heckel both placed fifth and sixth in the 200-meter run respectively. Junior John Archer placed sixth in the 400-meter race. Junior Enrique Borrego won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.68.
Enrique Borrego and Senior Henry Domine both placed first and second respectively in the 1600-meter race. Seniors Henry Domine and Kyle Kassen and sophomore Ben McKinney placed first, fourth, and sixth respectively in the 3200-meter race. Junior Finn Soesbe won the 110m hurdles and senior Ryan Schurr placed fourth. Sophomore Charlie Humbert placed third in the 300m hurdles. The Rangers placed second in the 4×100 relay with runners Thomas Wray ’22, Charlie Clements ’21, Tim Brown ’21, and Max McFarland ’21. Furthermore, Jesuit won the 4×200 relay with runners Max McFarland, Patrick Bennet ’22, Cole Younger ’22, and Thomas Wray.
The Rangers placed fourth in the 4×400 relay with runners John Archer ’22, Patrick Bennett, Cole Younger, and Charlie Humbert ’23. Junior Lucas Hernandez placed sixth in the shot put and senior Nick Law placed second in the discus. DeChi Peterson and Carson Walls placed second and fourth in the high jump. Furthermore, Thatch Balady and Aiden Riley placed second and fifth in the pole vault. Blake Hunter ’22 and Mason Flood ’21 placed first and fifth in the long jump. Blake Hunter also placed second in the triple jump.
Lovejoy
Jesuit finished in fifth place at the Lovejoy meet. Some notable athletes include junior Patrick Bennett who won the 300 hundred meter hurdles. Juniors Patrick Bennett and Enrique Borrego ran relays with seniors Kyle Kassen and Henry Domine excelled in the medley relay event, with a time ten seconds faster than the second-place team. Domine would go on to place third in the 1600-meter run. He finished with a time of 4:34.10. Freshman Thatch Balady won the pole vault by clearing a 12’6″ pole. Senior Nick Law placed third in discus with a throw of 12’6″. In the 3200-meter run, Enrique Borrego finished in fourth place with a time of 9:44.97.
St. Marks
Jesuit’s Rangers won at the St. Marks event. In the 100-meter run Charlie Clements, Bradford Butler, and Tim Brown placed first, third, and fifth respectively. In the 200-meter run, Ford Butler and Cole Younger placed second and fourth. For the 400-meter run Patrick Bennett, Pierce Jackson, and Logan Thompson placed first, third, and fourth. Furthermore, in the 800-meter race, Raul Hernandez, Henry Beckman, and Caden Cutchall placed fourth, fifth, and sixth. Henry Domine and Enrique Borrego placed second and third in the 1600-meter race. Enrique Borrego won the Varsity 3200-meter race, and he was followed by Aldo Avila, Jack Betz, Ike Pawsat, and James McKinney, who all placed fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh.
In the 110m hurdles, Finn Soesbe placed first, DeChi Peterson third, and Ryan Schurr fifth. For the 300m hurdles, Peterson placed second and Avery Towns placed fourth. At the 4×400 relay, the team of Cole Younger, John Archer, Thomas Wray, and Patrick Bennet won the relay. Juniors Lucas Hernandez and Evan Bare both placed second and fifth in the shot put event, and Nick Law placed third in the discus event. Owen Berry ’23 and Mason Flood placed second and fourth in the Varsity long jump.
The Jesuit-Sheaner Relays
Jesuit performed quite well at the relays at Postell Stadium, with the 4×200 relay team breaking the school’s record.
In the high jump, junior Grant Kostos won the event with a clearance of 6’4″ in a tiebreaker. Patrick Bennett won the 300m hurdles race in 39.3 seconds. The 4×200 team of Max McFarland, Patrick Bennett, Bradford Butler, and Thomas Wray finished the race with a time of 1:29.32, breaking the school record of 1:29.36 from the previous year. Jesuit finished in fifth place, winning four points which put them over McKinney Boyd.
Enrique Borrego won the 3200-meter run with a time of 9.42.68, winning by 15 seconds. Kyle Kassen and Ben McKinney placed seventh and tenth, winning Jesuit the event.
The Rangers won the distance medley relay event with a time of 10:53.22 thanks to the team of senior Henry Domine, junior Cole Younger, senior Kyle Kassen, and junior Enrique Borrego.
At the field events, junior Carson Walls finished the long jump competition in seventh place. In the shot put, junior Lucas Hernandez placed fourth. For the 110m hurdles, junior Finn Soesbe placed fourth, and in the 4×100 meter relay, Thomas Wray, Charlie Clements, Max McFarland, and Tim Brown finished in fifth with a time of 42.46.
Overview
Jesuit’s track team has shown a lot of promise this season, with their results speaking for themselves. They will compete in the district meet on Friday, April 9th at Jesuit, where they hope to win and qualify some athletes for the area round of the postseason.
