Jesuit Rangers Track and Field entered the Parish Invitational after a spectacular week at the Sheaner Relays. As a result of this, some of the star runners on the squad would not run in order for them to be fully rested by the District Championships. This would give some of the underclassmen an opportunity to run and display their prowess on the track.
Field Events
Evan Bare ’22 would claim a bronze medal in the Parish meet with a 46 foot mark in the shotput. Carson Walls ’22 continued his impressive season with a 22 foot and 5 inch long jump that earned him a silver medal. Another long jumper would have an impressive performance as Blake Hunter ’22 jumped a PR of 21 feet and 4 inches. High Jumper Grant Kostos ’22 had a season-best jump of 6’4 that solidified his gold medal performance at Parish.
Track Events
Without sprinters Patrick Bennett ’22 and Thomas Wray ’22, the Rangers were faced with a challenge on the track. Other members of the team would thankfully step up to help the Rangers finish 2nd in team scoring. Enrique Borrego ’22 placed 3rd in the 400-meter dash with a PR of 52 seconds. Borrego is primarily a distance runner so this was a very encouraging performance by the senior. Finn Soesbe ’22 placed 2nd overall in the 110 hurdles with a 15.74-second performance. Caden Cutchall ’24 claimed the team’s lone gold medal of the day in the 800-meter dash with a 2:00.
Moving on to the relays the Rangers claimed two silver medals. The 4×200 meter relay team of Hunter Krepp ’22, Sammy McFarland ’24, Zach Musso ’24, and Cole Younger ’22 ran a 1:29. While the 4×400 team of Caden Cutchall ’24, Charlie Humbert ’23, Cole Younger ’22, and Enrique Borrego ’22 placed second with a time of 3:27.
Analysis
Heading into the final week of the regular season, I couldn’t be more excited to watch this team. Hunter Krepp ’22 has an opportunity to claim the district title in the 100-meter dash, which would be a huge accomplishment for the TCU football commit. I also expect Patrick Bennett ’22 to continue his dominance in the open 400-meter dash. Charlie Humbert ’23 also has the talent to make a deep run in the post-season in the 300-meter hurdles. Finally, I would recommend closely following our 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays as they will also attempt to make a run through regionals and areas.
