In their first two contests, the Jesuit Rugby team found great success, beating both Faith Family Academy and Lake Travis handily.
Against FFA in the season opener, Coach Upton’s varsity squad put up 84, with FFA silently responding with a mere 5 points. Against Lake Travis, however, the competition began to heat up, Lake Travis scored 14 points. Jesuit was still able to come out on top scoring 33 points for another distinct victory.
“the team as a whole played fantastic.”- Ben Petroff ’24
While Coach Upton was pleased with the outcome, he feels his team sure does still have much to work on. Coach Upton looks for a certain smoothness and skill in his games, and while the guys gathered a victory, he’s still looking for some more development.
Sadly, Jesuit Rugby’s game against Strake Jesuit from Houston has been postponed due to the inclement weather conditions. This is both a relief and disappointment for the team, as while they were unable to practice all week during icy conditions, they still looked forward to playing one of their in-state rivals. In fact, back in 2021, when the team won its first state title since 2011, Strake Jesuit was the runner-up, making this matchup all the more exciting for players and fans when it eventually gets played.
As far as scheduled games go, fans can look forward to Coach Upton’s squad playing Allen High School’s formidable Rugby team next Friday.
